I'm sure Ubisoft knows what they're doing and is profitable, but to a regular person like me it seems like they devalue their games too much. Even when I want to buy a Ubisoft game right away, I'll still wait. Compare that to some Nintendo first party games that almost never goes on sale.
Don't sell your observations short. I think Ubisoft definitely has problems hitting the numbers they want and that their franchises are largely not what they used to be. And when they don't sell they lower the prices pretty quickly... but then many people have also taken notice & learned not to buy until later because of it. So in a way it's like a self-fulfilling dilemma or catch-22. It's definitely a problem for them and the only way I see out of it is if they can somehow reinvigorate their offerings in a big way with some hot must-have titles -- and that seems to be a tall order at this point. Judging from the accounts that we seem to hear, stuff like Skull & Bones is not going to get it done.

Due to reviews, people priced in 30-40 bucks for this game because true 60-70 bucks games would be something like elden ring or any other fancy dark souls of the latest year plus something like zelda botw and totk.
Game is good, the prerelease sentiment were great and hyped up, the release reviews are good(downgraded from excellent from announcement).
Overall a decent buy for 30-40 as a regular price and even better buy for backloggers like me for 10-15-20 at bestbuy/walmart clearance bin a year later.

If it was like Prince of Persia the 2 Thrones, that would be a $60 game. I loved the powers in those from back then. This one had cool powers too, but when I first heard about this game I assumed it would be like the ones from the earliy 2000's.
Related to some people's comments and "backlogs" of games. I'd have to imagine that non mobile video games are just massively oversupplied right now. Maybe being in my mid 30s means I'd play a wider span of games, whereas young people only want to play what is newer and will pay up for it, but I have a backlog of literally hundreds of high quality games that I paid $0-$5 for. I know there have been a lot of layoffs in the game industry, but I feel like this oversupply is going to hurt the industry even worse in the future. maybe just a big shake out is needed
you have literally 100s of garbage indie games you paid 0-5$ for... there haven't even been 100s of "high quality" games release for the current gen since 2020. if your backlog extends into last gen and before, you need to stop kidding yourself... you ain't never guna play those games

I should have clarified that the vast majority of those are PC games. And none of them are indie titles. Avg is probably 7-8 years old but varies widely. But even on console, Xbox game pass only equals about 2 full price games per year, 3 or 4 if you get game pass ultimate.
and yes, everyone with these backlogs is aware they'll never play them all
If you like metroidvanias it's a good one of those. If you don't this isn't going to change your mind.
I bought for $30 on QVC with a promo code and resold when I got maybe halfway through and couldn't figure out where tf to go. Reminds me of Ori and the Blind Forest with the platforming.

That being said, I know by the time I got round to this on my backlog it'd probably be $15, so I'm going to force myself not to pull the trigger 🥴

Looks like the price went back up already. I was able to grab it last night though.
