I got the same error and figured out how to get around it. Don't use the links above. Login to Metro with your phone line and PIN. Then, go to Phones & devices >> Tablets & devices. I was then able to select the Samsung tablet and added a line and paid $20. Hope this helps you out.

It did not work for me. It said, I could not add a new line.

Even AFTER doing all this - the tablet feels like a phone from 6 years ago.
Isn't spending $20 more and getting a phone (Moto, Nord etc) a MUCH better idea.
What do people even do with this tablet especially at this speed?
Yeah, I went through with the update and did all of these suggested steps... It's still slow as sin. It should be embarrassing for Samsung to be releasing such a slow device (I believe this was released in 2021). I have a cheap free LG Boost Mobile phone from 2017 that's much faster than this thing. I bought it for the form factor (tablet, bigger screen), but had I time machine I would've gladly spent an extra $20 to get the Moto Stylus instead. I'm not sure how much I'll use this tablet for apart from maybe YouTube. All I know is it's going to be testing the limits of my patience

Are there any utilities to debloat or strip the Samsiung tablet down to the barebones to use for surfing web and playing youtube? I manually went in to delete the apps that I could. The speed is OKAY but every so often while playing Youtube, it does lag a bit temporarily. Something must be happening in the background during this slowdown. Even an old ipad does not have this type of hiccup on youtube playback.

For $20 it's not a bad deal. But currently, it's not worth getting a 2nd one.

It is under "Connections" --> "More connection settings" --> You will "Network unlock" and "Permanent unlock"

Click on Permanent unlock after 180 days of activation....it should unlock it for any mobile service provider sim.
Thank you. Found it.

I screwed up and had the sim in when I connected to the internet.
Anyway to get rid of the Metro PCS stuff at this point?
Sorry if this is a dumb-dumb reply (I don't know much about how this works) but would performing a factory reset restore it to its original, pre-SIM-insertion condition that lacked the Metro apps?

I was originally planning try that when my phone has used up the first month and the tablet service terminates with it.
But the Metro PCS bloat has a Unlock button I plan to try in 6 months. If it unlocks I'lll try the reset at that time.

Keep in mind that if you recently got in on that Moto G Stylus 5G 2023 or a similar phone deal and are not planning on renewing that line (or those lines) you recently got, once those lines become deactivated for non-payment in the 2nd month, this secondary tablet data line may also become restricted and deactivated.

Happened to me on a previous account with 2 lines - 1 of which was added a few days before the 2nd.

The hassle it took to get it fixed with their support was not worth the number of days lost I eventually recovered.

Oh wow. Just got the tablet last night. Did all the recommended steps. This thing is so slow... I'm going to use it as car GPS hopefully it can at least do that.

You can bypass that by tapping four corners from top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left, do it for two more time in the same order, so total 12 tap, then press volume down, after that you will able to connect to wifi and set up without SIM.
What's the downside of bypassing sim activation? What's going to happen to the mobile plan?
Thanks.

The downside is only that it will not unlock after the six months. If you don't need that it shouldn't really matter.

Actually not sure if you don't activate it properly if you will be able to order other phones or not.

Silly question, but where can I see the tablets monthly due? I had the tablet for a few days and it's still not showing up under my metro account. Or does it usually take a while to reflect the new device in our accounts?

It seems that putting in the SIM card and using the tablet will not right away make it show up in your account. If you activate the tablet through the MetroPCS website, using your order number Etc, that makes it show up in your account.

After running online comparisons between the Samsung and TCL; I opted to get the Samsung.

It is surprisingly slow. I have the eye comfort shield turned on, but sometimes when an app is processing, the eye comfort shield will momentarily turn off and back on again.

You need to agree to the Samsung terms to setup the device. It comes with some Metro bloatware.

That's a BIG downside!
