This is a good, flexible, intermediate level truck. Fast enough to keep older kids and adults entertained, but can be turned down for young or inexperienced users. The transmitter has a switch to limit power to 50% / 75% / 100%. Newbies can start on a 2S battery at 50% and eventually work up to 100% on a 3S battery. Unlike some of the cheaper Amazon trucks, parts to repair it will be readily available. This would be a good way to get started in RC and eventually upgrade to a 6S vehicle when you're ready.
I'm just saying this for perspective. A 3S truck isn't like a toy for beginners or something you'd find at Walmart. This is a serious hobby-grade vehicle. The majority of people will not feel any need to even upgrade from 3S in my opinion. You have to be really into the hobby to go beyond that.

Monster trucks are great all-around RC vehicles because you can use them almost anywhere and they are very good at taking abuse.
RC is the same thing.
I'm 50 and just got back into this hobby. Spent thousands on it the past year. Couldn't afford this when I was young.

Not too old. I just bought my first one last month and I'll be 45 this year. I always buy the stuff that I missed out on as a kid. Lol.
Are there any "good" RC vehicles out there that use a battery that's not trying to light itself on fire if you look at it wrong?
I don't have experience with this one but I will say this - as tempting as it maybe to go straight to 3s/100%, don't. It's more fun to keep it running at a slower speed and learn vs having it constantly roll/crash/break at a higher speed.
It may also seem logical to replace plastic parts with metal ones such as gearing. I also recommend against this, unless you really know what you are doing. While it seems logical that a metal part, such as a gear, is more durable than a plastic counterpart, the lesson I learned is this essentially puts more pressure on dependent components. So, having a $5 plastic gear break is better/cheaper/easier to repair than snapping an axle or burning up a motor.
Keep some spare batteries on hand. Get a heat sink for the motor if it doesn't already come with one, especially if you buy more than one battery and want to run it back to back across batteries.
Just my 2c.
