Based on some recent reviews, I would wait for the stainless steel to go on sale for slightly more. i don't think I would trust a plastic meat grinder.
I had this one, worked well for few years but eventually plastic cracked along the seam on the side. I replaced it with off brand metal grainder for $44 and it works as well or better but i cant imagine it will ever break.
I've had this plastic food grinder for 10+ years. It is well made and works perfectly for making ground meat. The only thing plastic about it, is the hopper and the screw. The cutting blade, disc and drive shaft are metal. I haven't bought ground hamburger since I've owned this food grinder and it has been a great purchase.

I also had the same experience with my mom's 10+ year old plastic grinder.
That said, I highly doubt the ones made today are anywhere near the same quality as those made 10+ years ago.

On the flip side, I highly doubt that plastic from 10+ years ago is as regulated as the current plastic. It may be full of BPA or other toxin.
