I saw this yesterday and it was actually a really good movie. Solid work from the leads and some great cinematography. For a 2hr and 25min movie about a nun it was not at all dry or boring. I am not religious and was quite entertained by this film. It may be my favorite film of the year so far…and I have seen Dune Part II, Beekeeper, Panda 4, The Holdovers, Argyle, Ordinary Angels, and Land of Bad.

A bit slow but overall a good movie. The lead actress (Cristiana Dell'Anna), who was unknown to me before this movie, was incredible. I expect we'll be seeing a LOT more of her.

Was a little worried that it would be some religious propaganda, based on the studio that released it… but it really wasn't. It was more about the person than the religion. Script, editing, and pacing could've been better, but it's worth seeing just for the story and the acting.

Yeah, I've missed a few in the theater. Waiting on my library to receive them but put holds on American Fiction, Iron Claw, Poor Things and Anatomy of a Fall.

It's not a story about the Cabrini Green projects in Chicago?
Those were built after she died and just named after her. She was responsible for Columbus Hospital, where she died, as well as the second Columbus hospital which was renamed Cabrini Hospital. You can watch original Tony Todd Candyman if you want a taste of the housing projects OMG

The intended target of this movie is to make a highly religious person palatable to non-religious people. The director has talked about how her thoughts and beliefs about religion did not interest him. As a fellow Catholic, it's a little frustrating that the very things which the saint would have defined herself by are nearly completely discarded by the film.

Cf.,
https://www.ewtn.com/catholicism/...heart-5459

It feels like appropriation. She was not a secular activist at all, but a religious worker for God's charity. She also did not define herself in opposition to the Church. She would probably be appalled at the film, much as the historical Joan of Arc would be appalled at most of the films about herself.

Imagine Oppenheimer, but it's a film by evangelicals who make the scientist's biopic all about how the nuclear bomb was God's gift to righteous America to win the war. It would seem tasteless.

She's an actress in Italy. She's on one of the best shows ever made. Gomorrah. Watch it on Max with English subs and Italian voice.

Went to my local movie theater, the good one, on a Friday to get a refillable bucket of popcorn. Not there to see a movie. Two regular employees, one manager working, 10 cars in the parking lot. Summer releases aren't looking so hot. It's a shame, the owner is local to the state and put a lot of money and heart into his theaters and seemed to care about movies. Never sold out to AMC. I don't think it will last much longer. Summer isn't looking too hot.

Trying to avoid spoilers. One site that advises parents says 13 and up. There is some prejudice depicted along with some derogatory terms from that time period towards certain ethnic groups. There are some deaths - there depiction is not gratuitous but still present. There is a brothel depicted and terms used for people working in that trade are used. Depends on what you are comfortable with discussing with your kids and their maturity level. My daughter who is now 15 I probably would have been comfortable letting her see this at 12.
