Any $150 monitor is going to look pretty weak compared to the one in this iMac. Sure, it might be a bit bigger at 24", but 218ppi (like the iMac) is impossible to get, even at $300.
I would advice to get a m2 Mac mini for 500$ and add whatever 300$ monitor you want. you can get monitor for like 100-150$ so you would save a good chunk of money

Lower price because discontinued in October 2023. First released in April 2021. Be aware that this will not be supported by Apple as long as if you purchased the newest model. Usually you can load the latest OS for only about six or seven years at which time Apple no longer supports that hardware model.

It depends on the type of user. I upgrade my PC every 3-5 years.
My wife is still using her 12 year old iMac. We are contemplating upgrading since the OS can no longer be updated and some apps no longer work without certain OS levels. Outside of this her iMac works without any issues at all.
We used the 2017 21.5" iMac (with the slower fusion drive) for 6 years without any issues. I sold it locally for $225 to buy the 24" iMac M1 (Costco sale about a month ago, 512GB drive version of the one in this post). I value the form factor and the quality of the screen.

I want to find a 24-25" monitor like the one Dell has from Alienware on sale for $399 4k, billion colors, high refresh rate but you can't mount a mini PC on its VESA mount and the monitor is 10" deep! Does anyone make a good monitor like this that doesn't take up so much space like the iMac? I might buy this just because I don't see better options and 24" will fit my desk
I have an M1 MacBook Air 2020 with 8gb of RAM (and concurrently a G14 from the same year with 16gb, Ryzen 4900HS and a 2060 graphics card.
I game on my G14, but do everything else on my MacBook Air cause it does it at virtually the same speed. Granted I don't edit videos/photos, code, make music, or do anything in the creative businesses. But the vast majority of people don't do those things either, and if you fall into that camp, an M1 with 8gb is probably plenty enough.

How much should I worry about this?
web pages load slower and refresh with noticeable lag vs. the M1 chip
