Burton end of season sale (up to 50% off)

It's not quite as good as the mistake 50% off code that Burton let everyone use a week ago, but the end of season sale still has some pretty good deals.

Burton End of Season Sale [burton.com]

I got a Family Tree Forager [burton.com] for my wife at half-off normal price, since she is able to catch a lot of powder days.
Good Deal?

I did see some Board 2nd's that were a pretty good deal, if you can deal with their annoying channel system. Everything else has been a total sham in this spring sale. Boots that I paid $350 for on sale a few years ago, were $519 on sale last weekend, and are back up to $650 this week. Gloves that I paid $35 for in the past were $59 on sale last weekend, and back to full price this week.

1000% agree. It's just innovation for innovation's sake.

Wow, I've never seen those before and had to look it up. What are the failures on them? I would assume maybe just slipping and losing your setting over time?

I had it for years and can confirm with the two screws it only holds for a limited time until your binding starts to move and even slide sometimes

No problems. I wish they make one long channel down the middle instead of two channels like the 1987 elite flat top

I don't understand the hate on the channel system. You guys are gonna send me down the reddit rabbit hole for experienced opinions.

I was immediately impressed by it. Near infinite adjustments and NOTHING but a PAD underfoot vs a disk and four screws? They even say in the promos that the appeal is nothing under your feet… I bought a bunch of Burton stuff including a board… and I also bought a different brand board. I got both versions of the Cartel X… and the channel system with EST (channel type) bindings looks smart to me.

I could've only bought normal reflex for both boards, but I liked the idea of nothing underfoot on a board. Yes it's 2 screws vs 4… but the 2 screws are OUTSIDE of the bindings… so they literally have equal or more leverage to 4 screws at the center.

My plan is to simply check the screws periodically… it'll take 5 SECONDS to hit them in the morning.

So seriously… I don't get it… "they suck" kinda means nothing. If you don't like them why don't you help us all out and say why?

The system looked so smart to me that I doubled down on it and ordered a 2nd set for another Burton board.

The disks (or any 4x4 system) has "teeth" around the disk, and TWO hole pattern options for width. The teeth around the disk are something like 2-3 degrees per tooth… meanwhile the channel/EST system is infinitely adjustable for width and angle. What's the downside? Having to periodically tighten the (outside the footbed) screws?

I've ordered something in each recent sale, 3 different orders… they were all delayed like this (to the point I expected a cancellation email)… but everything eventually shipped.

So I'm guessing you don't need to worry unless you're pressed for time. Stuff ships from various locations, so that's probably also part of the delay… they got slammed with orders from these sales.

I have boards w/ both. To me -
benefits are dialing in your stance on the fly. Super easy to adjust stance width, angles and centering your boots. Feel. Better board feel and flex. Cartel bindings have lateral hinges left right of your feet.

Have never had the binding come loose, shift in the channel, etc.

Pet Peeves- because it does not have a disc that offers incremental angles and the angle indicators on the burton EST bindings to me are not as accurate - disk binding angles dont always feel the same as a similar setting on the ESTs. So, jumping btwn boards always ends up w/ some additional adjusting.

I don't use standard bindings on the channel since I have the EST bindings. So, unfortunately no experience or comment from that angle.

I have had a channel board since around 2012 (with cartel est), used pretty heavily for a few years and then much more sporadically. I very rarely had any issues with the screws loosening, but I will say that it is hardly an issue to keep a screwdriver handing if you are worried at all and can just tighten. If you are super worried about it as well I'd guess you could try blue loctite? That will not be a permanent hold but I imagine it would keep the screws tight until you go to move the bindings.

I enjoyed your input in the other thread too. I've officially gone off the deep end with boarding. It's been forever since I've been and I had to reprogram my mind on it.

The channel system isn't as restrictive as I thought it was. Just like the Burton ReFlex bindings fit almost anything else AND channel… other binding brands like Union fit everything AND channel. The only part of the Burton channel system that's a "trap" is the EST bindings… which I bought several of, even after realizing this.

So I'll definitely be riding EST on my Burtons… but I'll also try some Unions, just to know the difference. 😘

I agree about the pet peeve… the EST bindings don't exactly "click into a position" like ReFlex… even just with hand pressure I can fudge the angle while tightening down. The infinitely adjustable nature of EST shows itself while I kind of prefer a "specifically repeatable" system while mounting the bindings. I'm sure this'll all mean nothing once I start getting days in again… but yeah, an understandable peeve.
