Excellent game and definitely worth the purchase though.
This was not a Day One release on Game Pass and similar to Yakuza: Like a Dragon it may take up to 7-8 months to find it's way to the service - possibly longer.
Don't care how great it is, I'm not buying a game that locks NG+ behind a microtransaction.
As a long time Yazuza fan I think these games are long enough without a NG+. That being said I 100% agree with your sentiment. The decision to put the NG+ behind a paywall was bizarre to say the least and at the price point of $19.99 I would hardly call it a "micro" transaction. Also, the way NG+ was executed in this game is not well done. Character events, some mechanics, and party members and their equipment are still tied to story progression in the NG+. So, when a character rejoins your team in the new game they start back at level one with none of their equipment. So, you have a level one character trying to do damage to a level 80 enemy.
The video game industry hasn't been doing itself any favors with micro transactions, rushing broken games out the door to market, the move to digital "ownership", lack of new ideas, and moves like this.
