Is 8gb of RAM in a MacBook the same as a windows based laptop? It seems there is now a push to have 16gb of RAM for all devices as the new standard for basic everyday computing. Will this handle daily tasks? Also for my business of doing spreadsheets and dabbling in AI and very light video editing for YouTube promoting my business. Should I buy this or a thinkpad E or T series? even the Asus Zephyr G14 is discounted to the 1k dollar mark with a 4050 gpu. Decisions decisions.

It is. It's garbage. I bought one. It seems good in the first week and then slow down significantly. Everything takes a while to open. I only use office on the air and it's still painful.

I've had the opposite experience with my M1 MBA 8GB. I have 20+ Chrome tabs open and Photoshop or Word/Excel and do not have issues with slowdown.

I always keep at least 10GB of free SSD HD space for virtual memory. While I do wish 16GB was the standard for MacBooks, for most users, 8GB is perfectly fine. I am personally resisting upgrading until 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD are the new standard, but for now, my M1 does the job perfectly fine and I have zero regrets about the purchase.

your experience doesn't seem typical and most likely just the opinion of someone that is anti-apple

Same price as Amazon: https://slickdeals.net/f/17387157-apple-13-macbook-air-2560x1664-retina-m3-chip-8-core-gpu-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-999-free-shipping

At 42% more expensive than the M1 version at Walmart (https://slickdeals.net/f/17361039-apple-macbook-air-13-3-retina-m1-8gb-ram-256gb-ssd-699-free-shipping), this seems like a bad deal unless you need something added in the M2 or M3 MacBook Air (or really just want the latest and greatest).
