I think it is still a great value despite it being an older model. These don't have to be 2 years old. They officially discontinued them only 2 weeks ago.

I was about to poopoo this deal until I realized this isn't refurbished. Or at least not according to their website. God help them if they are misrepresenting it!

These were originally launched in November 2020, so the design is 3 1/2 years old. Great computers but worth bearing the model age in mind when deciding whether to buy

That's interesting, implying that Apple is still planning on manufacturing them. It's unfortunate that they're still only 8GB.

If you wait till June Apple Back to school sale with happen, and M2 MacBook Air will be 750$

They ask for no verification that you are an student

It's -100$ of normal price of MacBook and the include 150$ gift card, making the total around 750.

The return of Magsafe is definitely worth getting a newer model; it's sad that they ever removed it in the first place. My sister used her 2017 MBP at a different desk just one time and accidentally tripped over the cord, sending the laptop to the floor. She's careful with her things and definitely not a klutz. The MBP somehow survived with only a dent.

Just keep in mind, it's not just a 2 generation old processor, but also the older body style.

You can get a refurb m2 for $849 from apple, which will get you the newest redesigned body.

And the latest m3 costs $1099.

Personally I'd go with the apple-refurb m2 minimum, just from the standpoint that it looks more modern, has a faster chip, and will probably maintain its resale value better.

My only concern there is wondering if Apple will drop support for it sooner than the M2/M3. Even though it's 2 generations old, performance is still phenomenal for the price, battery life and lack of heat it puts out. Yes, the lack of magsafe is a major downer, but it also means that you can get a good replacement power supply for a lot less money.
