This 8gb M1 is more than capable to handle the tasks of 99% of users. I run multiple tabs of chrome, imessage, spotify, ableton etc etc etc, all at the same time. Look online and you'll see the same experience. Definitely a good buy at this price.

This has the big bezels around the screen. The M2 has the thinner bezels with a slightly larger screen and a bunch of additional benefits like better camera, better audio, brighter screen, etc.

I'm using an M2 Mac Mini with 8gb RAM connected to a 12tb external hard drive to run 3 servers (Plex,Emby, VLC) without a hiccup. It's Been running continuously for almost 2 years. I previously had a 2018 mini pc i7 with 32gb ram that crashed every month and would bog down even just using Plex. Don't believe all the "8gb ram limitation" jargon.. this computer is a workhorse.

I just bought one for my niece. Walmart also sells a 3-year AllState warranty for $79 (it also offers AppleCare). The difference between the M1 and M2 is about 15%, so this looks like a good deal for a brand-new MacBook Air M1. For general use like web browsing, videos, streaming, email and casual gaming, this is more than enough

Did it actually arrive new? Lot of recent negative reviews saying they received obvious refurb units.

I'll go ahead and grab this. I ain't a computer scientist, so for $650 I'll overlook the 8gb and live with it. So as long as this is a new, otherwise it's going back to Walmart.

I'm using my friend's MacBook exact this model rn and browse 7 tabs with IntelliJ up running nothing and it's slow as hell. Anyone believe "Mac ram management is superior than pc" is biased by apple's marketing policy. Nothing in the world can compensate the difference between 8gb and 16gb, btw I worked for apple's infra team as an engineer before. If your plex crash, guess it's not run on Linux right? Not because it's a pc

I bought this and am running it with a 27'' external monitor. Even though specs are less, I feel it's running smoother than the Mac Mini m2 8gb ram 256gb ssd that I had.

I see people say this a lot, haven't seen one person who's actually owned one say this though.

I'll speak up. I had an 8GB M1 that ran perfectly. Anything I threw at it, perfectly. I did all the basics and some pretty tame image editing. Gave the laptop to my dad a year ago, no complaints from him either.

I think the right way to think about this is.. 8GB is fine for most people. If you know you need more, then you already know you need more, but don't be FOMO'd into buying more if you don't have a specific use-case that requires 16GB. You'll be fine.

Best Buy was selling these earlier this year for $399 but only for 1 day. Walmart needs to knock a few hundred dollars more off before I'll buy this 4 year old 2020 model
Exactly!

M2 also has reduced durability with the thinner bezels. I've read reviews where someone picked up the M2 Mac air the wrong way and damaged the screen.
