I'm using an M2 Mac Mini with 8gb RAM connected to a 12tb external hard drive to run 3 servers (Plex,Emby, VLC) without a hiccup. It's Been running continuously for almost 2 years. I previously had a 2018 mini pc i7 with 32gb ram that crashed every month and would bog down even just using Plex. Don't believe all the "8gb ram limitation" jargon.. this computer is a workhorse.

I'm using my friend's MacBook exact this model rn and browse 7 tabs with IntelliJ up running nothing and it's slow as hell. Anyone believe "Mac ram management is superior than pc" is biased by apple's marketing policy. Nothing in the world can compensate the difference between 8gb and 16gb, btw I worked for apple's infra team as an engineer before. If your plex crash, guess it's not run on Linux right? Not because it's a pc
I'll speak up. I had an 8GB M1 that ran perfectly. Anything I threw at it, perfectly. I did all the basics and some pretty tame image editing. Gave the laptop to my dad a year ago, no complaints from him either.
I think the right way to think about this is.. 8GB is fine for most people. If you know you need more, then you already know you need more, but don't be FOMO'd into buying more if you don't have a specific use-case that requires 16GB. You'll be fine.
Exactly!

M2 also has reduced durability with the thinner bezels. I've read reviews where someone picked up the M2 Mac air the wrong way and damaged the screen.
