I bought this base model the day it was released. Great laptop with powerful cpu but only 8GB of ram was a mistake.

Not a good choice. I'd get the M4 MacBook Air for $200 more - 16GB RAM, 256GB storage.

I'm not an Apple product user, but considering this laptop (refurbished) got +45 votes at $389 just back in August of this year, I'm surprised this deal got -17 at $549 (new). Can anyone fill me in on why this is apparently such a bad deal?
And FYI, it's now $499 at Walmart.com.
