The main difference is that this one comes with 8GB RAM and the new M2 comes with 16gb. Since this isn't upgradeable and Apple Intelligence requires 16gb to future-proof, I think paying extra for 16gb is worth it.

To still clear out any of these unsold 8gb laptops, they need to discount it to $500 to make sense. At that price it'd be an excellent beginner laptop.
