there is open box good for 370 available 30mi away from me.. worth it?
I bought an open box fair from two different stores and ended up wasting 4 hours buying/traveling/returning. They were both in really bad shape (chips, scrapes, scratches, gunk galore etc.). One had 91% battery health and the Apple care check said it was bought in 2020 so nearly 4 years of use. The other one was so bad looking that I didn't even bother booting it up and processed a refund on the spot.

General question on Applecare if buying an openbox from best buy, if activation date is outside of window for adding Applecare is it possible by providing photo of receipt to Apple?
My good condition one I picked up earlier looks great. Full battery with only 6 cycles as well.

The fair Macbook I purchased was activated on Nov 2020.
51 cycles 97% battery health.
No charger.
Some nicks on the edges.
Is it worth keeping. I tried to get BB to give me a charger or a discount. So far, no dice.

Considering you can't even buy them used for $399, I'd say so. That battery is basically new.
I bought a used Macbook Air from private seller who was able to get the bestbuy open box for $406 including taxes on April 30, 2024 online for store pickup. He flipped it for $450 selling to me. I saw the warranty was expired using apple serial number checker, called Apple. Apple told me the device was repaired twice.(May 2022, March 2024) and were courteous to tell me it was regarding the battery.
I bought it only because battery cycle count was 1 and it looks in almost new condition with no scratches or dents but looks like bestbuy sold a 2 year used macbook device to him after replacing battery recently? Or did someone actually buy in 2022, somehow return it to bestbuy after almost 2 years and that was sold by bestbuy as open box? I do have the online order pickup on May 10 screenshot from bestbuy and also validated that pickup by going to store so the private seller was not lying about it.
Apple did not tell me if the first repair request in 2022 was bestbuy or private party for privacy reasons. Now the option key does not work that well on my macbook (works on slight hard press) but while still in return window I cannot return as I am not the original buyer and also paid more. Make sure you check yours by calling apple as I could have well been the first owner of used open box in good condition from bestbuy and been sold a 2 year old macbook air repaired twice.
Should I still keep it given that it's got 1 battery cycle and it's only $450 only or contact private seller for refund? But option key may not work too long but that key should still work for few years if I had to guess. TIA
