I got some of these Amazon toaster pastries a few months back. HOLY SUGAR OVERLOAD. It's a sugar-bread sugar-coated sugar-filled sugar-sprinked sugar-shingle. They made my teeth hurt. They actually felt bad to eat. My body was saying THIS ISN'T FOOD.
Is this any worse than typical grocery store ones?
The amount of processed chemicals and non-sense in there is unbelievable

These have more sugar per pastry but other than that, yeah... not really any different.

The amount of fear mongering in this thread is staggering and we're only on 1 page of comments thus far.
These have overly processed ingredients and lots of sugar, are not a whole food, and probably far from the healthiest option. How is that fear mongering? Sounds like facts to me

Oh, they're not a "whole food" ?

How are you defining this "fact"?

Show me what fear mongering social media influencer you are parroting & I'll point out the overly processed shit they're paid to promote.

The everyday price for Walmart toaster pastries (12 pack) is cheaper per ounce and the 6 pack is about the same price per ounce so this isn't really anything special for off brand Pop Tarts in my opinion.

These items always have a lot of complaints about sugar but the truth is, if you're one to not be doing some kind of calorie restriction and keeping your body fat (especially visceral fat) low, then no level of avoiding sugar is going to make you healthy. And the corollary is that if you can't eat some sugar without being unhealthy, you have some kind of underlying issue that needs to be addressed.

you are missing the point. eating these makes you fat and stupid and unhealthy. yeah it's fun to joke about it but there is no legit reason for humans to eat this. you are better off baking pastry from scratch and freezing portions.

Fun fact: Most of you peddling and preaching all this 'unhealthy for you' snack shaming will probably die from something besides sugar intake earlier than those who enjoy what they want (in moderation). Don't tell people what they should or should not do if you aren't a poster child of health.

This is coming from a guy who was a very fat kid from the first 22 years of his life and now runs marathons and is in better shape/ happier and healthier than those who made fun of me or told me what I should or shouldn't do growing up. Do sh*t in moderation and don't listen to what others think. They'll probably die before you and are miserable anyway Wink

LOL.

A whole food is a single ingredient food. Since there appears to be an educational gap here, some examples include beef, chicken, eggs, or an apple. This product has more than one ingredient listed.

Not parroting anyone. Common sense, keyboard warrior.

Zero chance in hell your diet consists of 100% "whole" foods so step off with your smug nonsense.

Not that these will be the reason anyone kicks the bucket probably except for self-induced diabetes, but synthetic vitamin A shouldn't be taken in quantities higher than 25% of your DV. These advertise as 50%, plus whatever you're compounding from your fortified cereals, milks, and other products daily.

Since vitamins and supplements aren't regulated and companies are allowed to put whatever, they often put it too high because it makes the label look more appealing. If you're going for pop-tarts, either go organic or with the cheap ones that have no nutritional value at all listed unless it's iron or something negligible.

The TLDR is that synthetic vitamins have B-sides (negatives) because they can't be synthesized perfectly, so the amount you see on a label (10% for example) has another 100% that you need to detoxify. Some are fine though and have much higher tolerances (C and most B's for example, water solubility) than others (E is pretty bad, A is mid).

If you're treating these as a breakfast rather than as a dessert, yeah that's not good. However if you treat these as the unhealthy dessert that they are and eat occasionally in moderation, I'm not sure how these are worse for you than grocery store cupcakes or cookies

Also, excess sugar intake doesn't directly cause diabetes. However, excess calories can lead to obesity which, along with other factors like family history, can contribute to diabetes.
Similarly, car accidents don't directly cause death, they cause blunt-force trauma which when excessive enough can lead to death

It's sad how you're trying to justify your unhealthy lifestyle.
