And that's why Apple is being sued by the US with several state backing. Apple purposely hinder competing 3rd party hardware/software to make you buy or use their products by lessening the functionality of the 3rd party product/software.
This sux for the consumer because you're forced into buying a certain product. This Samsung watch could be a great watch but you'll never know if you're an Apple user. In my case I carry both an Apple and Samsung phone because of iMessage.
Sorta . . . for a while. Apple shuts down apps that support hardware competing with their watches. The watch will still run but the iPhone will shut down the software on the phone that supports the watch.
No way. Apple is a monopoly - they were forced to go to usb c - Apple will do everything to not be compatible with anything not made by them.

I use MI Band. Will this provide similar functionality? I actually don't need care that much about health monitoring or tons of smart features. I mostly want customizable watch face, heart rate, receive texts from my phone, 1 weekish battery life. This looks like it ticks those boxes but bigger than Mi Band series.
In case anyone else here uses Sleep as Android and considers compatibility with that app a requirement for a wearable: the Samsung Fit line is not compatible with Sleep as Android.

Bought one of these a few weeks ago.
Looks and feels really nice for $70. UI is just as smooth as my galaxy watch 6 classic.
My battery life was really good, but less than what Samsung advertised. I got around 10 days with sleep tracking off.
Unfortunately there is a bug right now where workouts don't upload to Samsung health app. It tracks the workout while it's happening, but it doesn't get uploaded. So I've switched back to my galaxy watch until it gets fixed.
Turning off Location for the Fit 3 plug in app seems to fix the issue. That's a weird bug. I hope SS will release a fix soon.
If you have your phone with you during workout, it can use the phone's GPS. However, there's a bug that it won't sync steps to the Health app unless you block the plug in from using location. So no GPS for the time being.

It does all that. It uses a bit more than 10% of the battery in 1 day with AOD off and sleep tracking on.

My wife is using one with a pixel 6 and it seems to be working fine.
