Just the opposite. I have a few of their folders and the quality is excellent. Very smooth opening and closing. Excellent steel and workmanship! Great value for the price, too!
Civivi, Bestech, and a scant few other knife makers are actually far better than USA made at the price point. A $50 Civivi rivals a $200 Benchmade (I have both and more, the Benchmade is in my pocket today but the Civivi and Bestech are also in rotation).

A lot of the old standard knife brands basically suck today. I wouldn't give a nickel for a Schrade or Case. Ka-Bar has some decent stuff, Buck too. But bang for buck, they do not rival the top chinese brands.
I just opened mine, the knife feels very well made. I agree with all the good reviews on Amazon.

Don't blame Amazon (for this, anyway). They're just obeying your local laws. Blame your local government. Vote them out.
Which local laws? I can buy knives from almost any retailer, eBay, Ali, etc. If this was the case of local laws then all retailers would be banning shipment of knives to my state. This is purely Amazon thing.

Civivi has 39 different folders listed on their site at up to 50% off. They are listed under Anniversary Sale. They have this same model there but at $54.99 and $55.99 for the black blade. I looked up the specs for Nitro V and it has very similar properties as 14C28N steel with a little less corrosion resistance. The 14C28N knives listed on the sale page are all sub $50. From a practical standpoint for pocketknife steel, the two steels are probably about the same. Nice selection on their site.

It is Chinese crapola, but I did buy one of the SV35N models from months ago. I wasn't impressed with the steel or the quality of the knife but at the rock bottom price it has a place in my tackle box.

Just put a warranty claim in for a civivi knife that the tip broke off after 6 montys of ownership and extremely light use and no abuse. We'll see how they do!

Could you update? Mine just recently broke too and was wondering about it.

There are a ton of different steels used in modern pocket knives, so I wouldn't expect anyone to take the time to make a list of good vs. bad for the 50 different alloys you might see. Different steels have different strengths and weaknesses across the 3 big performance markers of toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. Just Google "Knife steel nerds steel chart" and you'll find an article from a couple years ago that is still a very good, quick reference point for what you can generally expect from various steels.

They replied asking me how it broke. I said normal usage and provided picture. They gave me 2 options - pay $5 and they would send me replacement blade only and I would self service the repair. Option 2, mail in to a service center with me paying postage and they will repair.

Wish I didn't have to pay anything, but it's better than nothing.

No, it's most likely local laws. I run into the same crap here in California. Wine coolers or refrigerators because they use too much energy. Tools because they ship from some place that stores a certain chemical. Local laws will often prohibit knives because of size or style. It's not Amazon.

benchmade are good knives but not for the prices they are asking, regardless of the steel.

Most steels are good, but there are tradeoffs. Nitro V is a nice stainless option that takes a great edge, but it doesn't have the longest edge retention. Steels with tremendous edge retention usually have thicker carbides which leads to potential chunks of steel being torn out if they hit something hard (plus they're harder to sharpen).

The heat treatment quality is the biggest difference amongst knives you buy. The super cheap dollar store knives are usually rather soft so they deform easily, but even cheap steels can be hardened in a way that they're very useful. One of my favorite cheap steels is 14C28N.

Without a good heat treatment, the knife doesn't usually have very many good traits. It will deform, it won't hold an edge well, and even the corrosion properties are affected.
