The Quest 2 still has quite a bit of life to it - it won't get the high-res textures in newer games, but Meta unlocked something like 30% extra power in the headset a while back, there's a huge backlog of quality games and even the newer games run on it (there might be a couple quest-3-exclusive games on it)
Much of the Quest3 benefit is going to be in the better lenses, the extra power (higher quality visuals) and the color passthrough, and I love all of these -- but the Quest 2 can still run games great.
I'd say the controllers on the Quest 2 might even track better than the Quest 3.
A couple quick notes/suggestions:
Use a referral code when activating your Quest, you'll get a bonus $30 store credit.
Whenever buying a game from the store, use a referral code and you'll save 25% instantly. Both of these are easy to find.
Buy the "Quest Games Optimizer" (3rd party tool) which will let you adjust the quality of games, like resolution and power. Many of them are not optimized and can look considerably better with this add-on

Same old argument as in all the other threads, pay $200 for this or $500 for the 3 or wait for the 3 lite or S which has no release date but is rumored to be using the same lenses as the 2.
I really like VR, but if I was given the full purchase price I paid ($250) to put toward the 3, I wouldn't. I don't play it enough the justify paying more. I'm over 40 and primarily play walkabout mini golf with my Wife. My daughter is 20 and would trade up in a second for the 3, she plays VR chat on Steam (PCVR) with the 2 and also has a Valve Index with full body tracking.

Two questions:
1. Is this a good entry point? Good games for kids under 10 (ie, not superviolent FPSs)?
2. Might hold onto this until August as a birthday present. Is new tech/version coming in next four months that might drive price down on this model, or am I likely paying somewhere around the same price point for this in the summer?

I was waiting for quest 3 lite but I had to pull the trigger on this.
I am totally knew to this kind of thing, but have been wanting to try it out for myself, and the kids as well.
Is this a standalone thing then, or do i need a playstation or something to hook it up to? Are there a lot of games of kids 10 years and younger to play?

I mean like If you buy this and theoretically don't like it you would have to pay back the GC. GC is not free to keep when returning.
That's why the retention rate is higher for the MQ3 than this despite the higher price tag though it an improvement in user experience hence less chance to return.
All in all, statistics is one thing but users are still people
