Is the orange Illumination wire connected correctly? If so, does the display actually change when you turn on your headlights? It's possible you have negative trigger Illumination and it's looking for positive trigger, or, it's just not working at all.
Dimmer on this one is basically "headlights on" or headlights off. Brightness doesn't bother me around town but on on long rural drives I'll often turn the display off.
It looks like you may already have an amplified system with factory crossovers. If you don't plan on gutting all the equipment, you'll just need the factory integration stuff. Really any head unit will do (just shop for the features you want) since it won't be doing much other than being a source without having to push any actual current. That is assuming all speakers and the sub go through an amp which is typically the case with factory premium systems.
Budget 4 channel amps I like are the SounDigital Evo 400.4 if space is limited, or a Recoil DI550.4 if you want an adjustable crossover (the SounDigital is fixed). If you're not experienced with tuning, the SounDigital is easier to install & setup since its fixed high pass filter is adequate, and all it takes is the flip of a switch.
Thanks, looking at the atoto units, he's 16 and not crazy into music, just really want hands free integration and I will be driving the car still a bit, so I don't want to destroy the sound at the same time.
If you don't want to mess with your car radio, just get this $39.99[amazon.com] + $3.50 Tax Android Auto / Apple Carplay with 4K front and 1080P back cameras instead. 64Gb micro SD card is included!
i think the coupon ended, bummer looked like a good deal

I've had an ATOTO A6 for several years and hate it. The FM radio reception is atrocious, and yes, I've doubled checked the antenna connection. It has trouble receiving even the strongest stations in my area. It's too slow to run Waze smoothly. I never could get Bluetooth to work reliably with any of my phones. The only Android Auto emulation app (Headunit Reloaded) I could find crashed every few minutes on it.
I wasted many frustrating hours trying to get this thing to work satisfactorily to no avail. Of course, the Amazon reviews were overwhelmingly positive.
I have this...and I will say this...the metra rav4 mounting kit doesn't fit well with the atoto 7we... Android auto and car play on this works good but took me hours trying to find the right settings..still haven't gotten my steering wheel functions to work with it...and phone calling function is HORRIBLE on all f7 models and atoto will not fix it... This stereo is fine but I can't recommend it to anyone because of the phone call issues. https://youtu.be/Cr2hpKGdqHk
4 speakers is a no brainer when your speakers are trash, and 6 1/2
I jumped on a previous deal for the CPAA-70m and it came with 4x 6.5" speakers too (they look the exact same) and while they don't sound bad at all, they're not very loud at all. Even connected to an amp. Not bad if you throw them in the rear location.
