thinking on pulling the trigger here
although this at one point went very low, it feels like i missed a great deal and that it may come back even at a lower price. so i dont know...

You can probably get this in the $600s in open box excellent condition in the future. The RX7700S is not a popular dGPU that people go for.

I picked one of these up a few months ago and it was kind of a lemon. They seem to have some pretty major BIOS issues that have yet to be ironed out by ASUS. Mine personally would not turn on the display on power on half the time. Something to consider.

Was that new or open box or refurbished?

Bought this PC during the winter, had problems with the speaker going out and had to bring it to Bestbuy to send it back for repair. Clowns ended up deleting all the data off the laptop even though it was a hardware issue with just the speaker. Now I am having another at times where the screen will randomly start flickering and the PC will start acting sluggish when it goes to to smartswitch to the AMD GPU. Definitely not recommending this laptop.
I bought this laptop as a secondary unit to have around the house. It has conflicting software that hurts the laptop. AMD software and ASUS Armory essentially will cancel each other out and cause major issues like low FPS.
I removed both and majority of the software and installed by ASUS. I'm using g-helper instead which can be downloaded through GitHub.
There's other quirks like.. I can't full screen watch movies that causes flickering.. NBD for me, but can be for others. Another is windows sleep. It'll essentially force you to hard restart the laptop. Fix to that is to disable sleep completely, but I've read it's a W11 quirk more than anything. Could be BIOS related.
Besides that.. I run Helldivers II, Fallout 4, CS2 all quite smoothly.
Keyboard is kinda awkward as they shove the num pad into such a tight package.. so typing isn't ideal. Used it for some light coding.
Pretty much a desktop 6650 XT performance? For $800, $724 Open box shipped to store? Pretty rad.
I'm gonna say, I'm pretty annoyed with my 6800M though. Recent driver updates broke a lot of older games. Ironically, Im playing my Arc A580 desktop more because older games are more stable (crash less).

Probably the best battery life of any gaming laptop.
Gaming performance is halfway between an RTX 4050 and a 4060. So, games will run great (maximum graphics settings) at 1080p.
Also, while 32GB is the most Asus will install in this laptop for you, it supports up to 64GB total:
