Not a gaming laptop and don't buy it main puropse is gaming. This is more of a everyday productivity / Multimedia laptop with decent graphics card. RTX 2050 is just a stripped down version of RTX 3050 4GB and offers around 15% slower performance,
It is just one generation older and a lot more powerful than Iris Xe.

That cpu came out q1 2023… the only old thing on this is that graphics card but this is obviously not a gaming pc
When you say it's not a gaming PC - why would you even bother with a dedicated graphics card if not for playing some games? I realize the graphics card is older, but if it's "a lot more powerful than iris", is only 15% slower than a current card really that big of a deal? If you're not on the bleeding edge of gaming (say, working through a backlog of 5-10+yr old games), wouldn't this be a perfectly fine gaming rig?
or more to the point, if someone were gaming on a budget, is there a better deal out there you'd recommend for under $700 (possibly under $600 with the Amex deal)? Seems like the 1TB would be useful for storing games, and a lot of things labeled "gaming" at or under this price only have 8GB of ram.

I will answer my part of the quote. You're having a misconception that dedicated GPU is only for playing games. There are tons of applications which can use a dedicated decent GPU for accelerating tasks. Some very common expamples are Video editing and encoding using apps like Adboe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas. On top of that 3D designing applications like maya, 3D Studio Max, a lot of scientific programs, machine learning etc. can be accelerated using a dedicated GPU.
And to answer your another question that planning to play older titles, if that is your moto, you can just pay probably $50 bucks extra to get a decent gaming laptop with may be a last generation RTX 3060 or current gen RTX 4050 which can beat it by a good margin. Those will sacrifise in other areas like build and display quality but if you need a gaming tig, that purpose will be served way better by those.

Out of curiosity, how does RTX 2050 compare to the integrated graphics like Intel Iris or AMD's integrated (forgot the name)?

I think that has been discussed here couple of times. It is faster than any integrate graphics from both intel and AMD, namely, the older Iris Xe (96 EU), Radeon 780M based on RDNA 3 and even the newer Intel Arc GPU in Intel's latest Core Ultra series Processors. For your comparison against iris Xe, check the chart below: -

Do you know if the RTX 2050 will have a significant hit on battery life compared to integrated graphics? I think I would be fine with integrated graphics as I don't game and don't think I need to run anything that would benefit from dedicated graphics. But I like the 2.5K screen on this configuration.

If you're not planning on utilizing the hardware, ideal circumstances would dictate not spending money on it.

$700 can net you a lot of different configurations that might be more fitting to your needs.

However, do keep in mind that a lot of software you wouldn't think of is GPU accelerated these days. The entire Windows UI, browsers, and YouTube being some of them.

With that said, power consumption on discrete GPUs can be better than having an integrated GPU in some circumstances.

I can't put numbers on this particular setup, but a general example would be that if the discrete GPU is more efficient at certain tasks, it can run at a lower clock speed than an integrated GPU might require and that alone can require less energy.

Upon googling "Dell 17 coupon", the only relevant one seems to be for a refurbished monitor.

Not sure if those accounts are rage baiting or there's a leaked employee code, but I wouldn't count on getting it.

I have the Amex offer, feels like a no brainer for a college freshman, but he also likes to play games, is it not good for a casual gamer?

I signed up for Amex a month ago but still haven't gotten the Dell offer. Haven't used the card either. Curious if it'll pop up if i start using the card.

According to videocardbenchmark.net, the RTX 2050 is about 3x faster than the Iris Xe:
