Good deal, they haven't been this low in a while. Also, yeah, they're not "instant," temp reads before that debate even starts. They take a few seconds for a stable reading, but it's very quick. If you want "instant" read, then you're going to pay for it... about 6x - 10x more. Oh, and FYI -- if you buy 2, Amazon offers a $1.50 digital credit for slow delivery.

About this item
  • Fast and accurate: Cooking thermometer features 3.9 inches food grade stainless steel probe and a high precision sensor which receives internal temp within 3-4 seconds, accurate to ±0.9 degree Fahrenheit; Don't spend any extra time leaning over a hot surface
  • Completely waterproof: The food thermometer has a IPX6 waterproof rating that means you can wash the unit under running water without fear. The instant read thermometer ensures cleanup is Ultra-fast
  • Lock function: Kitchen thermometer can lock the current temp when the probe is removed from food and keep the temp displayed, no more dangerously peering into the oven or grill
  • Easy to Use: Candy thermometer features a foldable probe design to neatly store the thermometer in a drawer or use the magnetic back or hook for convenient storage
  • Calibration: Calibration function adjusts your digital thermometer cooking back to the correct accuracy, making it a BBQ thermometer which lasts a lifetime

Good deal. I've had a similar model with no temp lock feature that has done me quite well for awhile. Got another model just like this one for grilling at the lake on clearance on clearance at Walmart for $9. I think that's a great price.

I do concur - I think anything $10 or less for these is a great deal. Also, while the $16 version is a bit nicer, with bigger readout, this smaller version seems to be built a big more durable in the "weak spot" which is where the metal probe contact to the plastic rotator thingy. I've never had anything from Thermapro break on me, but I did buy one of those $16 ones for somebody else and it broke (cracked) right at that joint. It appear the plastic on the larger probe version is a bit more brittle. Just my observation.

I bought this thermometer nearly 2 years ago, and I have been happy with it. Some reviews mention issues with the foldability failure compromising the longevity, so I simply stick it to the fridge in its opened state. That may not be an option for some, but it has worked for me.
