Amazon, for some weird reason, has the Takeya Sport Helios pickleball paddle in 16mm standard or long for a huge discount. These are normally $100 paddles. The standard handle is $33.85 and the long handle is $38.64. It shows them as preorders, which is strange because they've been out for about 6 months.

Anything with T700 raw carbon fiber will perform well. That's become the standard in pickleball. And if it's advertised as being "thermoformed" or "unibody construction with edge foam," even better.

There are two "cheap" $50 paddles on Amazon that are pretty much on par with the $200 paddles; they're probably even made in the same factory. One is the Garye Pro XL, the other is the Sport Beats Deft 1. You don't get a warranty with them, but paddles today are built really well anyway.

If you're wanting name brand, highly recommend the Vatic Prism Flash 16mm. You can get it for $99 on Amazon.
I'd recommend beginners to just go get a $10 kit off Amazon that comes with two fiberglass paddles and some balls. Then if you like it, buy some better ones and give the $10 ones to friends so they start playing too.

No. Fiberglass is old tech. You can get cheaper paddles that outplay this one

My friend has many paddles and he said this one was great for the price and ease of purchase from Amazon. I've never tried it though.

All raw carbon fiber paddles wear out soon (surface grits worn out, loss spin). Juciao's is particularly fast.

Give Jikego a try.

On the spec it looks OK. But it is definitely not USAP approved. Yes manufacturers or vendors try to exaggerate. But you have to discount claims.

Wonder why they did not make it 0.2" longer. Weight consideration?

Reasonable quality for the price and a notch above the cheap fiberglass starter paddles on amazon, costco, sams club, etc.

Not thermoformed but adequate for beginner to intermediate players. Has reviews online.

Probably right about that but for anybody here checking about paddles, it wouldn't make a difference. Playing local or just playing for fun, nobody cares if the paddle is USAPA approved. I'm not a big player but the smaller tourneys I've played in, they never checked paddles.

How can you tell the Garye Pro XL is on par with higher end paddles? Thanks in advance Smilie

I believe the Sport Beats paddles (Deft and Versatil) in your original link are both USAPA approved. Not only are they listed as such in the Amazon description and labeled as such on the paddles themselves, but they are also on the USA Pickleball paddle list. Smilie

Specs are similar, but in the $50 and under category, it has the fewest reviews. Sport Beats next fewest. Friday and Juciao have many satisfied customers. Ordering from Amazon may give you more comfort than AE.

It has the same specs as the higher-end stuff, namely:
-Uses T700 raw carbon fiber for the paddle face surface
-Thermoformed (it was made using intense heat and pressure, which seals the edges and increases sweet spot and performance)
-Unibody construction (older paddles use to be a paddle face + handle with bonding where they met, so they would break at the handle easily, now paddles are one-piece)
-Edge foam (foam is injected around the perimeter of the paddle to increase sweet spot and stability)

I've used lots of paddles in the past 5-6 years of playing, and the Garye Pro XL is great. What's funny about the paddle industry is that 1) They're all made in the same handful of factories in China and 2) Even the $200+ paddles only cost around $15-20 to manufacture. So when you spend that much, you're just supporting the pros that play for that brand.

Because the Garye is a new brand. It was only first listed in the USAPA paddle list around February.
