Dude, even the second series is incomplete and stops at a point with a bit of an open ending, not to mention all that clanging noise through the 2016 series , pacing issues and the horrible CGI. I agree $40 is expensive , but it is better than paying $60+ for the remastered dvds of the same series.
Man, that's what got me into this anime. I remember playing sword of the berserk on the Dreamcast and after fighting zod, I wanted to learn more about the story. Found the anime and got hooked. I really really suggest checking out the manga. It is seriously an amazing read. Prepare for a roller coaster of a ride….

On a serious note, I remember renting one of the DVDs of this series back in the Blockbuster days and being devastated that the other volumes weren't available.
A decade later I watched it online in crappy quality. This purchase is a no brainer. This is going for $70+ on eBay.
My main regret was not just buying the complete set. Instead I set price points and have a random collection that I've been building. Still missing volume 2. No idea why that specific one never price drops.
If you do buy the 1990s edition, do yourself a favor and skip the first episode. The foreshadowing adds no value and takes away from the plot twists.
