How is this compared to the multi tool with a detail pad attachment?

I have the oscillating multitool and it gets the job done. However, the sander is orbital and doesn't overall better job. I've found myself sanding a lot more lately, so I decided to give it a go.

I tried both and believe me this one is a lot better. The Oscillating one, even on the low speed setting can wear out the sanding sheet faster and melt the velcro pad. Oscillating can get a little heavy after long use, even if you use the m12 fuel.

They show a picture "contour" of it hugging the curve a hand rail. How can that be achieved? Is this a separate attachment? What am I missing?

You can get a sponge pad to put on it.

Can you post a link to the picture? Im not sure what your talking about. But the soft pad will conform to a rounded surface if that is what you mean.

Looks like there is a padding underneath the sandpaper that assist with hugging curves.

As the others have said, it's the included sponge pad. This is in the product description:

"The optional sponge pad allows the abrasive to contour to the work surface when working with complex trim profiles"

I bought one of these a while ago. It does work great, but the sandpaper is specific to this tool.

How is this any better than any mouse sander you can get for 20 bucks? I like spending money on tools so sell me on this lol. Even with the hack, $100 for this seems steep

This one is a more special red than other mouse sanders, and it uses a more special battery pack.
New people may want to be your friend, and they might ask you to touch their bare (or covered, whatever they're into) wood.
