$25 on amazon after 50% off coupon different brand but likely the same pair.

I just want to bird watch from my window while munching on potato chips
If they were for $10-$15 I would take a shot, but for $40 I'd rather pay double for some reputable brand, like Vortex, Nikon, Celestron, Barska, Bushnell.

Agreed, albeit the CA is dependent on other factors, as well. I own and use a pair of Nikon 10x50's and that magnification is at the limit of anything I'd want to use handheld with any regularity... 8x would be more compliant, but I'm not using them for extremely prolonged viewing so the 10x is what I preferred, for handheld use.

For a frame of reference, I'm an experienced amateur photographer, including handheld macro photography so I'm no stranger to handholding higher magnification lenses steady, without image stabilization. There's no bragging rights to claiming you can handhold 12x binos comfortably. The reality of it is, 10x is a more reasonable upper limit for the vast majority of humans, 8x is probably the sweetspot for most people to handhold steadily... COMFORTABLY. 12x and the majority will find themselves frustrated with every little micro movement from your hands and body, looking for things to lean on, prop your hands on, prop the binos on, etc. Quick glances, sure.. longer, steady looks? Look for 8x, or 10x if you think you have truly steady hands.

note: many manufacturers will stake a claim on 12x being the upper limit for most people while actual seasoned users/groups tend to stake that claim on 10x as upper for most, 12x for fewer people.
I bought myself a pair of Hawke Endurance ED binoculars that were 10x50 because I wanted larger sized binoculars for sky watching but not something that would require a tripod. With 12x50 binoculars you will have a much narrower field of view and need steady hands to be able to see anything.

I can stay that when a buddy lost a pair of my $80 bushnell binocs he replaced them with a $30 cheap ass pair from Amazon. Think brand starts with a B and had a j in it. They were way better than my $80 pair and only reason a knew they were $30 is I bought another pair as backup.

That said, a $250 pair of vortex are waaaay better than a $80 pair of Nikon bushnell etc ( in general).

pro, lol.
12 X is too high for general purpose use as the field of view will be narrow and any movement on your part will shift the view significantly and hard to actually see anything.
50 makes this a pretty BIG set which makes it much less likely you'll bring it with you.

I was about to say the same thing. Someone will say, they're made in the same factory in China.... with vastly different parts.

I received mine today. Happy with it. We have a house on the hill and am looking at things 3 miles away. Tricamel shows the price at about $100-120 for the last year.

12x is a lot of zoom for a binocular...and 50mm means they are pretty big.

But the amazon description says it can take a standardtripod adapter (and the company may even send you one if you ask).

These could be good for tripod/monopod use--like setting up at home pointed at some distant viewpoint, or on a hotel balcony looking out at whales.

Normal price on Amazon seems to be $120+ so these may not be $50 chinesium.

Wish there were a semi-decent spotting scope on Woot at a similar discount. I need something long, but it doesn't have to be very nice.
