I got one of these as well. Same thing. Had to level the frets and adjust the pickups. After that this thing rocks
When you say you had to level the frets, do you mean truss rod/ bridge adjustments, or were there actually some high frets that needed leveling? Thanks
All guitars in this price range need a little help. Take it to a tech unless you have the tools and experience to do it yourself. Probably 150 bucks but well worth it

Besides a phillips head screw driver and a file, what tools are we talking about here?

Maybe consider a fret crowning file. fretguru, stewmac or something like that. Watch a few videos to avoid mistakes until you find the right one.. It's always best if you have someone show you, not always possible. First is to do no damage.
I received this guitar on Wednesday. I am a guitar tech, and I think these Streamliners are amazingly built for the cost. The frets on mine were level, but the edges needed filing to reduce sharpness on the fretting hand. The tuners are perfectly fine for what they are. The nut is the only weak part - it is poorly molded plastic and looks very cheap. It was filed fine, but could be taken a touch lower for optimal action at the bottom of the neck. Came shipped with standard 2mm action at the 12th fret. I was able to lower it to 1.25mm with no problems at all.
If you look inside the guitar it has kerfing around the edges, which is not something you usually see on this price point guitar (even at 499). I suspect Gretsch makes their semi-hollow bodies in bulk before deciding which ones go on to be Electromatics vs Streamliners. Control knobs and 3-way switch are cheap but functiona and can be swapped out with classic Gretsch metal knobs for minimal cost. This is a good guitar at MSRP, and an absolute steal at this price.

Did you level the frets yourself or had a shop do it?

I have the same guitar with other pickups and Bigsby and no, Bigsby isn't heavy enough to compensate light body, neck dive is still there.
