Could it be put together so the shelf is on the left side of the desk? It doesn't look like it from the pictures, unless the shelf can be turned 180 degrees and the legs attached to either end of the shelf.
If so, what is the depth of the desk part itself? I see the 31.75"D and assume that is the shelf part, so I'm guessing about 20" for the desk?

If the left and middle vertical boards were removed from the bookshelf, there would either be no shelves or they'd require some impressive & creative cantilevering...
