What is everyone's problem with Newegg? I've been buying from them since 2005 (if memory serves) and never had a problem with their customer service on any product. Besides, Newegg is just the storefront here, goHardDrive is the actual seller and shipper on this deal. I'd grab a pair of these without hesitation, except I just ordered a pair of 18TB drives last week for $135.00 each.

I have a 10TB version of this drive. Picture a grandma with the shakes holding a box of rocks. That's about what these sound like when their busy.

Go on YouTube and watch Gamers Nexus. They did a report about Newegg.

Then do a search for whatever you want! I negotiated my deal, there is no direct link. Just do a search, there are tons of 18 TB drives on the site.

Anyone buying multiple drives like this for home use is absolutely throwing money away if they aren't buying used drives like this. Any mechanical drive can fail, and you should never be trusting important data on any single drive. So if one fails, it fails. Self-insure by buying more with the savings.

If you aren't worried about density though, the refurb 12 TB HGSTs out there are the best deal for TB/$ at the moment I think.

I have bought 3x from gohardrive , each time buying 4 12gb refurbs. First time went very good, all 4 drives gave No errors, and initialized no problems, good SMART. I was happy.

2nd and 3rd orders had problems with initializing my drives, and smart errors! Was terrible experience for me, and decided not to buy from them.

I have had good experience with ServerPartsDeals with 14TB WD enterprize Manufacture Refurbs, every drive initialized and smart was good...I bought 10 drives from them.
Did you contact them for a replacement?

I've had some interesting customer service problems with Newegg in the last 3-4 years. That eventually they fixed but it wasn't until gamers nexus YouTube channel put them on notice. I didn't realize what was going on till later when I saw their experience and how they called out Newegg for basically scamming their customers and not standing by their return policy. Because I had issues with something and they were supposed to setup a return and refund and they kept coming up with excuses or refused to let me return it. I had to goto different levels of command to talk to a competent human being. And later I saw that video from gamers nexus. And then after that I saw a deal on a RGB pc case for super cheap. And thought maybe, a company in the spotlight would do better. And that case arrived damaged. And long story short, Newegg went up and beyond what I expected of them and it worked out nicely in the end. But I don't think they would have done that if it wasn't for the negative publicity.

Yeah that whole gamers nexus thing was news to me. I've not had any issue to date buying from Newegg. The couple of product issues I've had, Newegg was Johnny on the spot with a fix/replace/refund etc. Just bought a new laptop from them a couple months ago, no issues as usual. I get that some have had major problems, and once bit twice shy for sure! Some may boycott Newegg because of.... But there is also such a thing as cutting off one's nose just to spite one's own face. If they have the best price in town, it's just foolish to pay more elsewhere.

You're talking about a drive with a 2.5 million hour MTBF...... I think anyone would take those odds counting on a typical life expectancy!

Have you actually read the link you posted?

AFR and MTBF are population statistics that are not relevant to individual units.

Could you provide the seller? I'd be happy to negotiate the same deal.

I bargained for 2 at $135 ea, he may do a better price with a larger quantity order. He won't take $125, I already tried 😁. But they arrived today very well packaged, I ran a few tests and all checks out. I'm in the process of transferring 10TB over to one of them at this very moment.

That only has a 30 day warranty?

You must be really confident these will last. I'd never buy a used drive with a 30 day warranty when I can get them with 5 year warranties and easy replacement. I've replaced two and replacements were mailed quickly.

I am very confident with 120 Terabytes worth (and counting) of their proven reliability. Warranty doesn't mean a thing if you never need to use it, as is most often the case.

I guess I've been unlucky or you have been lucky because I've had to replace two out of six refurb drives.

I have had drive failures, but it's thankfully a rare thing. As long as the heads don't crash into the platters, the data can usually be recovered. I have lost some data over the years for sure! But for the most part, these things just work.
