Previously I also did a lot of Metro and Tracfone deals to give to friends and family.

That said I have been burnt enough times and learnt the hard way to stay away from them. At least with Metro the system rejects orders beforehand. With Tracfone the issues happen after you get the phone…if something goes wrong in activation the customer service outrigjt lies and wastes your time .
I saw quite a few comments on "unlocked automatically after 60 days"
That was NOT my case a few months ago, I needed to talk to CSR for unlocking.
I had this phone for about 5 months. The battery sucks, the SOT was about 4 hours on a full charge, and AccuBattery estimated it even lower. The phone heated a lot. Both issues should be caused by Samsung's in house 1380 chipset (fabricated by Samsung as well). I had a OnePlus Nord 20 at the same price range that lasted about 11- 12 hours SOT on a full charge without heating issues.

The camera is good but not splendid. The screen looks good but has lagged touch register/none-register issue. Overall this phone is buggy and not worth the MSRP of $699. $100 seems like a fair price if you don't have other choice.

Yeah, I came to the same conclusion as you and initiated a port-in from my GV number. It is pending now, but there seems to be a problem. I'll have to call in to customer service to find out what's holding it up. I may have entered some account info incorrectly from my GV account.
Some companies (Metro is one) treat GV number as a landline number and it takes longer to port in than a real mobile number.

GV is manual port so it takes long time not instant like cell lines.

So I am not sure how people are getting a new number!!
So far in this thread there has been only one person (trashmail2) reported getting a new number https://slickdeals.net/f/17498784-128gb-samsung-galaxy-a54-5g-locked-1-month-unlimited-plan-100-w-port-in-free-shipping?p=171022182#post171022182 . So it's not a common thing. There are several people (including me) who ported in a number that's different from the number used to get the verification code.

Same experience in the iPhone 11 thread (has same port in requirement) as well.

It's true that a service plan (that you bought as part of the order) was already linked to the IMEI. When I activated my Total iPhone11 (that was purchased with a plan and a discount) their system asked for the phone's IMEI then proceeded with asking for the port-in info, without asking for a time card PIN or telling me to buy a time card. I don't know whether or not the fact that the time plan was linked to the IMEI prevents me from getting a new number, but I didn't want to take any risk of screwing things up. After all, I already planned for a port-in.
This might be why it only worked for me. Service didn't seem to be linked to my phone. I actually had to call up support to get my phone activated with the port, because when doing the porting process. It kept asking me for a service fill up pin or asking me to buy a month of service. It sounds like it wasn't asking that for others. So i guess they farked up with my phone and didn't apply service to the IMEI. Allowing them to put a new number on it as well.

I have a quick question for people who already ported and had their phones activated. When you go onto the website and click on "devices" does your phone show up there or does it ask you to choose your phone as well? I just wanna make sure support didn't mess up as it's not showing anything under devices and just asks me to select my phone and provides a huge list.

I have an iPhone11 in my Total account, which was bought on a similar deal like your A54, then ported and activated with a number from Metro. The 1st attachment shows what I see when I selected Manage Lines, select that phone number, and click on DEVICE. For a phone "branded" by Total/Tracfone/StraightTalk etc, it'll show "Handset" and its IMEI. The 2nd attachment shows what I see for my BYOP Samsung S24 in my Tracfone account, it'll say Unknown Device and the SIM number. The Line Nickname is whatever the user wants to call it.

If your phone is listed as in the 1st attachment, then it's OK. If it's listed as in the 2nd attachment, then your phone is treated as a BYOP phone and it will not be unlocked by Total.

Did you have to buy (another) time card to get your phone activated?

No, support activated it for me as they said they saw that i paid for the plan as well via my Paypal transaction. It just wasn't already on the IMEI i don't think like it was for other since it wouldn't let me manually activate the phone with out buying another month of service.

I'm seeing the first picture. I just thought there was supposed to be a picture of the phone or something under the device tab or something, so thought maybe they messed up. So i guess they didn't mess up and everything is good on my end.

I only got back to Total recently but I've had Tracfone service since 2001. My TF account used to show pictures of branded phones but it no longer does.

Oh I see what you're saying now. I'm used to rooting my phones and unlocking the bootloader in order to replace the phones firmware with a custom ROM... So to understand you correctly, did you replace the Samsung stock firmware by using ODIN or some app that is similar?
Yeah, simple ODIN and Samsung build from samfw.

If you're interested I can help you in flashing that build as you know basic steps.

I've done it before in the past, but it's been a while since I swore against Samsung after the Galaxy S7 due to its inability to unlock the bootloader, but nowadays I've had a change of heart mainly b/c I can get Samsung's budget phones at an affordable price... I most definitely appreciate the gesture, you're far too kind. If things have changed much after the Galaxy S7 release, feel free to direct me to an article that offers instructions or a walkthrough.

Don't think so since they require it for the discounted iPhone 11 too.
