Day 1
Purchased phone on Walmart's website. Note email address used, phone number, and PIN.
Downloaded the two agreement PDFs during checkout. The Loan Agreement doc has the Verizon phone number information.
Received an email from Verizon later that day. "Your account email address has been updated."
Day 2
Registered a new account on Verizon.com under Mobile & 5G Home using the same Walmart.com purchase email.
Added the new phone to my newly created Verizon account using the phone number from the agreement and the PIN used during Walmart checkout.
Verified my account email and my "daily driver" phone number.
Installed the My Verizon mobile app on my daily driver phone and logged in. Neither the app nor chat would allow me to pay off my device.
Day 3
Tried to pay off device
The local Verizon store would not allow me to pay off my device. They sent a text to the device to "authenticate me". After explaining I didn't bring the device, he said the device couldn't be paid off for 30 days.
Left the store and Immediately added a credit card payment method in the My Verizon app.
Immediately called 800-837-4966 (Verizon Support number), enter the phone number/pin set up during checkout. Said "pay off device", automatic system read the phone number back to me, told me how much I owe, and asked if I wanted to use the card on my account. Said "yes". Received email confirmation of device payoff.
Went to the Verizon Chat to cancel the service. They originally asked if I wanted to end it after the current cycle. I asked to end the service effective today. It took some convincing for the rep to comply, but they ultimately did.
Phone finally arrived by FedEx. Inserted an H2O sim from Target for $1 before turning on the device the first time.
Put the sim in the phone and went to https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and click "start an unlock request" then follow the prompt to unlock the phone. Confirm the AT&T unlock request in your email. The approval came minutes after I clicked submit.
Confirmed unlock status at sickw.com
Thank you to all those before me that posted experiences and steps you took. I could not have pieced this all together without your comments.

Was supposed to arrive yesterday, 6/7. But OnTrac tracking says the shipment hasn't been received yet. So no clue if/when I might actually get it.
- Ordered from Walmart.com yesterday (Sunday) at 2pm, was promised delivery of phone: Tuesday.
- At 4am today, received an email from Verizon that my account email was updated (using the email address I specified when placing the order). Also see on Walmart that the phone was shipped around the same time via FedEx.
- At 7am, I saw the email and signed up for a new MyVerizon account on their website. Site asked me for the email (supplied above), phone number (shown as "BORROWER'S PHONE NUMBER" in installment loan agreement provided after purchasing from walmart.com), and PIN. I successfully created a new account (without having received a phone yet). I then added a credit card to the payment methods on the account.
- At 8:40am, I called the CS number (800-922-0204, authenticated with phone number and PIN) and said "pay off device." After approving via voice prompt, my credit charged was charged $99.
My phone shows up under my devices in Account details on verizon.com. I got the IMEI (listed as IMEI2) off that listing, and plugged into sickw.com IMEI check (real #'s X'ed out):Next steps:
- Wait for phone to arrive (tomorrow)
- Make a call, send a text
- Cancel service via CS phone.
- Wait 2 months for phone to unlock.
Am I missing anything? Hope this is helpful to someone.Walmart was supposed to deliver my phone yesterday, but it looks like they just generated a tracking number without actually shipping. So I don't think they've even pre-activated my phone yet.

The weird phone number is your new phone number with Verizon, I recall that as well. You can use that, in combination with the email supplied to Verizon and the PIN, to create an account on the Verizon site.

The confusing thing is I used to have a Verizon online account for some old, inactive wireless lines and was trying to revive it right before I got the order to go through. Because the Walmart ordering website was bugging out using the revived account and doing a new sign up. Ended up having to place the order as a full new sign up from my phone.

Am I missing anything? Hope this is helpful to someone.Too bad i didn't read it completely first and i turned on my phone before reading about the ATT unlock... so i'm stuck on the 60 days unlock process.
I also never get an email from verizon to sign up for an account. I only got the one that say my email was updated(your first email).
I ordered on 6/5 2PM and received the phone today 6/7 around 4pm.
Following your step to just pay off the phone by calling in and then use the chat to disconnect the line immediately. Never had to speak to a real person (not including online chat).
The rep wanted to charge me for the 1 time activation fee, by i stated that it's in the contract that if it's cancelled within 3 days it will be refunded, and he took it off
Also, my plan is started on 6/5 (the day i ordered) instead of the date that i turn on the phone. So i guess i will get charged for 2 days of usage?
Thanks again!
I got antsy & impatient cuz FedEx was not showing the phone received (was nervous it was delayed and wouldn't arrive within 3 days), so last night (Mon) decided to go ahead and cancel service since it was already activated per Verizon's site (via the esim). This after paying off the phone in the morning, but without having received it.
So here's the happy second half of the story:
SICKW.com agrees:
Very satisfied. Thank you to all who made this possible in this thread. May it help someone else score a deal.
and the darn think wont even activate on Verizon (on website says contact your prev carrier to unlock). wth walmart?

1. I got a phone from the Walmart website
2. Screenshot Verizon number and account number during checkout process.
3. Use the number to create a new Verizon account without needing to get my phone.
4. Called 8008374966 (Verizon Support number) the same day and enter the phone number/pin I set up during checkout.
5. When I ask "pay off device", It automatically transferred me to the CS and the first rep told me I could only pay it off after two weeks.
6. Hangup and repeat the same step above, this time another rep was letting me paid it off, but she has to override it, and I was told they put in the paid off request and the total would show on my next bill. I agreed and let them handle the rest.
7. Went to the Verizon Chat to cancel the service, They ended my service on the day I brought the phone since the phone was already activated on the website.
8. Got the phone the second day, brought an H2O sim from Target for $1.
9. Put the sim in the phone and went to https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and click "start an unlock request" then follow the prompt to unlock the phone
10. The approval came minutes after I clicked submit. I reset the phone and the phone is unlocked.
I didn't have warranty issues, it showed warranty expire June 2025
Next step:
Since they closed my account, I was not able to go back and check the bill. I guess I would either wait for the bill to be in the mail or via email. Would come back and update.

Called Verizon and asked about my new phone number and they tell me it's assigned to someone else's account. They said phones usually ship and should be in customer hands in two days.
So somehow Walmart really screwed up my order.
Sounds like I need to cancel the first order and start over.

I've tried to setup my Verizon online account with the new phone number over the last few days and it hasn't worked. I called Verizon and they looked up my application number (from the loan agreement) and there was an exception on my order. Verizon thinks I owe $128. They told me to go talk to Walmart about it.
I suspect this has something to do with my old Verizon account that was closed about a year ago. I didn't owe anything and got small refunds for some old watch lines with that closed account.
