Potentially, you can get a latest version of Mac mini from apple.com with education price & back-to-school promotion for around $399. ($599 - $100) and maybe $100 gift card or apple EarPods ?
And yes, $399 (assuming Apple coupon is worth cash to you) is the expected going rate. Here's hoping by some magic that the M4 Mini arrives by then.

Hope they will do it during upcoming WWDC, but the hope is not high.
If not announce by then, it most likely announce around Q4 which usually means back-to-school promo usually already over.
Yes, it's even better if you live near a store, for trivial handoffs and carry-ins, but their remote and mail-in support is also outstanding.
Back in the day, I had one of their routers -- Air Port Extreme. And it had an issue. They flat out wouldn't even warranty it since, and I paraphrase, "The warranty of the Air Port is tied to you Mac laptop." But I don't have a MAC. "Then you don't have a warranty for the Air Port."
So, maybe if you drink their Kool Aid and are a card carrying member of their over-priced hardware club, they treat you well. The rest of us who only nibble on fruit, we get the rotten pieces.

That's Apple's warranty for iPhones. Mail in and replacement ahead of time are both offered. Maybe you got a one-off and someone lied to you about support, but it took me about 30 seconds to google this, so it should have been trivial to escalate this and get support.

That's Apple warranty for the Airport. That, too, took about 30 seconds to google. It clearly states one year warranty.
Not sure why you had problems, but it doesn't change the fact that the facts (of Apple's support) are readily available online, and the fact that Consumer Reports shows they're head and shoulders above everyone else.
Taken together this implies to me either you can't communicate effectively to Apple, you can't google to understand your warranty (or you can't read your warranty from the packaging), or you're misstating the details to us here.
