If your watch box has the a picture of the watch, it's default configuration.
If your watch box has a generic silhouette of a watch as the picture, it is a custom configuration - the bands are in its own packaging inside the watch box.
Seems like the default same color watch and Sport band combinations are the problem just from doing multiple trial and errors

I am trying to understand why that is the case and would like some confirmation that they are still getting the sport band for the default configuration despite it not shown up as a line item.
Have you gotten your Watch yet and confirm that the 2 line item case still gives you both the sport band and atheleisure bands? I would feel much better if there was confirmation that the build that I listed in the screenshot provides 2 bands.

The ones saying "no band" probably didn't open the watch box, and given the extra band came separately, they were probably expecting the default band in a separate box.

So in your case, green M/L sport band was not instock, your cart had only 1 free band and you might have placed the order without looking at it properly. So you will get only the cloth band not sport band.
I suggest you to cancel this order and place new order again when the band comes back instock.

That's what I thought was going to happen. Sucks for people who ordered the sports band (didn't show up at all in the invoice).

And the new watch had a printout of the trade-in label for FedEx and instructions (same that they email you) in case you don't have a printer.
So in your case, green M/L sport band was not instock, your cart had only 1 free band and you might have placed the order without looking at it properly. So you will get only the cloth band not sport band.
I suggest you to cancel this order and place new order again when the band comes back instock.

And that it's intentionally long in order to fit over jackets.

I was actually startled by the difference. I was expecting no really noticeable difference, just some newer features and hopefully better battery life.
