DS224+ (also 920+, 423+, 220+, 720+, 1520+) supports 4k transcoding with inbuilt GPU (rest Synology does not or very incapable). Adding RAM also help in overall performance. DS224+ is Value buy for first time Plex users (add more RAM to make it 6GB . RAMs are very inexpensive )
QNAP TS-464 has everything you need for Plex but little expensive.
FYI: 4k transcoding is mostly needed when you want to play your Plex content on mobile/ipad (assuming you have plex pass). On home TV, you rarely need 4k transcoding.
For non-Plex users , most of the NAS are fine.

Speed, security, RAID,...?
PS - My cheap Router NAS seems to work well as a media server for my FireTV's.

Also note that there's the 1-bay DS124 for around the same price (~$150) at B&H and Amazon if you want some extra power but don't want to bother getting another drive to set up RAID. That's a way of having a backup of your backup in case one drive fails. Keep in mind that if you get the DS124 and ever change your mind about that, it has USB ports. You can easily hook up an external drive and set up an automatic backup of the internal drive.

I'm wondering if there will be a sale on the DS1522+. Amazon doesn't seem to have it in stock, so I'm fearing that model will be skipped in this year's Prime day deals.
Whether I get the 923+ or 1522+, I will miss Plex transcoding though. But I already have Infuse lifetime subscription, so I had started to go transcode-free anyway. (Side note - anyone with an Apple TV, look into Infuse; unlike Plex, it does not rely on the codecs that come with Apple TV. The developers pay for various Dolby/DTS licenses directly, and the software has all possible codecs built-in. It basically does away with all transcoding. Excellent software that I would highly recommend if you are in the Mac ecosystem).

Ships from Amazon, I got it 2 days after sending the requested info.
Seems like you get much better bang for your buck with terramaster.
