Occasionally Best Buy will have a two pack of the 75 W color bulbs for around $60 in case anyone is OK just waiting and scouting for the higher wattage bulbs

I'm allergic to light (lupus with serious headaches in bright lighting) and have had multiple brands- Sen*gled, Hugh, cheaper brands, too. These are some of my favorite! With the bridge, and the ability to make them more 'sunset' colored, they're snappier on Hubitat than a lot of the other brands, and I like their color rendition better. Thank you for the tips on pricing in both places

Who uses such bulbs these days rather than using canless lights? I am sure you will find some good deals on smart canless lights.

I'm curious -- is there a reason why there is such a price disparity between the Hue lights and something like these bulbs [amazon.com]. I've bought a half dozen of these and they seem perfect to me. Am I missing something by not purchasing Philips Hue?
The hardware is top quality. I've had zero failures in 7 years. That includes five bulbs that are in outdoor fixtures despite the fact that Hue doesn't recommend using their bulbs outside.

Better color reproduction than any other LED lights on the market. The reds look red, not pink. Blues look blue. They're not thin or washed out.

They respond quickly to changes. Other brands lag by up to several seconds.

The app works perfectly every time. It's easy to set up routines, both time and location based. You can also easily create scenes with specific lighting colors and dimming. You can have one scene for reading where the light by your comfy chair is bright white, but the rest of the room is subdued.

Integration with voice assistants is good, though I have to admit Google assistant keeps getting dumber by the day - that's Google's fault, not Hue's.

Zigbee. The Hue lights operate on their own Zigbee network, keeping the load off your Wi-Fi network.

Hue Play. When you add the Play sync box and one of the gradient light strips to your TV it adds a whole new dimension to watching movies

The breadth of their offerings. Indoor, outdoor, low voltage, 110v, fancy fixtures or bare bulbs, the Hue ecosystem has it.

I won't deny that the bulbs are expensive, and most of their fixtures are pretty ridiculously priced. But you get what you pay for.

As an added bonus, if you don't already have LED bulbs, they offer a pretty substantial reduction in electricity usage compared to incandescent, or even florescent bulbs.

2nd this post. I've had a single bulb die on me since 2015. I expect more since my OGs should be at end of life.
Every other app for LEDs has a ton of ads, and is super slow. The only Hue product I dislike are the strip lights.

I have a bunch of strip lights and when used appropriately, they're great. I have two in my kitchen that I use for under cabinet lighting. Best decision ever. Put them on daylight and you can see everything very clearly. Put them on a color at low level and they provide enough ambient lighting so I can see what I'm doing without having to blind myself at night.

In our bedroom, they're mounted on the underside of a bureau and make a great nightlight/background light when watching TV.

I've unfortunately had ~4 A19 bulbs fail and I have 3 candelabra bulbs that have never wanted to work right. but since I'm in the ecosystem I've paid the higher price for the Hue bulbs anyway.

I use the somewhat cheaper white ambiance bulbs - I don't need the colors. And I really like the wireless dimmer switches. I can now put a lightswitch wherever in the house I want it (nightstand beside the bed, for example) if I don't want to controll them with voice commands.

How much difference does it make between the 60w vs 75w vs 100w bulbs?

Are the 60w bulbs really that much weaker?

Yes, but unless it is like a living room you probably don't need the 100w. Go get a cheap 60w and 100w LED bulb and look at the difference, that should give you a good idea.

I own both and the 60w is pretty good for almost everything, only bought 100w because of a deal at the time.

Spent 10 grand on HUE. Our whole household, front yard, inside, back yard is hue. No issues whatsoever. You get what you pay for. With that said it is expensive, we bought everything before inflation hit too. Would cost more now.

Tapo is okay but Hue has an entire ecosystem with far more granular control and effects. Not to mention the bulbs you linked are WiFi while Hue bulbs connect to their own Zigbee hub, so fewer devices consuming your spectrum, better range, better battery life (for sensors).
Not entirely true. It's has been more than couple years that the non-hue brands started supporting zigbee and matter which is even better.

Those that put Philips on pedestal may be biased. I paid premium for their non-hue bulbs and they failed faster than generic brands. Actually the generics are still going strong.

Anyway you cut it, $75 dollars for three smart bulbs is insane considering you also need their hub etc to use them. Stop paying these prices. They are 400% higher than the next best brand

My comments are about the Zigbee bulbs only.

The Wiz bulbs aren't great. Hue purchased them from a Hong Kong company to offer a lower priced line. They are definitely not the same quality as the Zigbee bulbs.
