Since these do not ratchet it's difficult to use the straight blade in particular.

You shouldn't ever need a non standard driver for this. There is always a small detent for removing doorknobs, so they can be screwed in with any screwdriver. Look for a small silver tab on the shaft between the knob and escutcheon plate - press it in and the knob should come off giving you easy access to the screws. (some commercial and older residential doorknobs have a set screw on the shaft instead)

This set is ultralow profile, probably more for special use rather than more typical low profile use.

wow great catch, I automatically assumed they ratchet. Pointless without it. Makes more sense to get a low profile ratchet and removable bits instead

I bought months ago and returned. They were not long enough for my use case. And since they didn't ratchet it would not have been much use. I also feared stripping the screw because had poor visibility to the screw being removed. Misaligned and it would have stripped.

Is this good for door knobs where a long screwdriver won't do? If not, any suggestions?

Yeah... nothing that I can think of that a long extension wouldn't work better.

BUT I'm sure if you need it its pretty clutch.

I had to install a smart lock deadbolt and the screws for it were impossible to access because the door had detail work that stuck out and obstructed access. Found these and they did the trick wonderfully. So, yes, they are a niche use item, but when you find a niche use for them, they're wonderful.

I bought this back in January and that is exactly what I used it for. Worked perfectly for changing out door knobs.

FWIW picked up a set with different branding here when they were on sale:

https://sciplus.com/5-piece-offse...river-set/

Cheaper than Amazon but no free ship & $10 minimum. The set's main advantage is their lowest possible height, which has come in handy a few times -- otherwise a ratcheting handle that accepts standard hex bits works 10x better, but sometimes it's too tall.

This is also ultra low profile and what I was thinking, can be had for $1.78 direct from china or less than $9 on amazon and can use any bit

Have a set of these, VERY specific use cases, i think I've used them twice, mostly when not wanting to undo something in the right order. Keep in mind for the Phillips in particular, there's to good way to apply downward force so they will cam out very easily, limiting how tight how can get whatever you're trying to fasten

I don't think I would call that ultra low, just low. The handle is 8.6 mm thick vs 3 mm on the one listed in this deal and the bit extends out further. But the one you are referring to is more practical for most uses.

IF you can fit a ratcheting bit driver with a 1" bit in there, then go ahead and use that. It's in the rare case that you can't fit anything else that these ultra-low-profile screwdrivers are gold.

You usually won't need them, but when you do, you do, and not much else will work.

Edit: same price at Walmart: https://www.walmart.com/ip/NEIKO-.../382368854 Nevermind, that's a third party seller.

The ratcheting option [amazon.com] on the same product listing is available and is also currently discounted (I see $8.13, or 26% off).

According to my shopping history, I bought the ratcheting option in 2021 for $8.43. So this looks like a great deal to me.
