Thank you, but you made a mistake. Lenovo PSREF [lenovo.com] (Part Number : 82QD00DHUS) says 8GB Soldered DDR4-3200 and one DDR4 SO-DIMM slot so memory IS UPGRADABLE.
I believe you have replied to a wrong post (which should be here)

I have a Target version. Solid laptop. The 12gen I3 is great. My version has a fingerprint scanner - meh. I was never a fan of touch screens on a laptop but if you like it it will be good. Mine has an on board SSD with an open M.2 slot. I am an Excel/Access user with no problems. At this price point it is a solid buy.

Added a 32gb 3200 RAM module and the system recognizes 40 gb total. Replaced the shorter 256gb NVME SSD with a full-length 1TB NVME SSD after cloning the whole drive.
It takes a T5 screwdriver to remove 6 long and 4 short screws. Had to use a plastic pry tool to unclip the bottom cover after T5 screws were removed.
The screen at full brightness looks the same as a 250-nit screen side by side, even though the spec says 300-nit.

The additional 8GB (totally 16GB) is likely just what they have tested in designing/manufacturing. However, as long as it's DDR4-3200 SODIMM stick, this laptop should have no problem in handling it (+16GB to 24GB totally).
This is what I have done/tried similarly with my Core-i3-1215U Lenovo laptop. (Lenovo officially saying only support 16GB).

Indeed, Crucial [crucial.com] says that it could take up to 40GB (+32GB).
According to Intel, Core i3-1215U [intel.com] can support up to 64GB memory (but this is also subject to other factors)
I saw that too and just assumed that since Crucial isnt the manufacturer, of the laptop they are going just by the model "Ideapad 1 15IAU7" without realizing (or just neglecting the fact) that there are several different SKUs for the different variations of the model. The SKU for the i3 in the spec sheet is specific to this build.

But if someone has had success going beyond what the spec sheet says (adding a 32GB stick in the empty ram slot of THIS model ideapad with the same SKU as in the posting 82QD00DHUS) then I think I'll grab this asap!!

Really? How? The spec sheet on Lenovo says you can only insert a max 8gb stick in the empty slot? Is yours an i3? OPs is specifically for the i3 version. I know it can be upgraded in the i5 but those SKUs are different
I have two Core i3-1215U laptops (Lenovo 8GB, ASUS 4GB). Both can work perfectly with a 16GB stick.

Thanks OP and I just ordered one. Been looking for cheap laptop to have to browse the web and use Microsoft Office. ID.me discount took $12.50 off so it was $237.49 before tax.

Yes - same one as in this thread I bought it a month ago from best buy when it was $279. Specs list 8gb max for the ram slot. But I decided to try a 16gb and it worked. So I have 8+16 = 24gb right now.

It's a pretty good laptop. 24gb might be overkill tho. I've never seen it use more than 10-11gb out of 24 even with a bunch of browser windows open.

Just picked this up to replace my broken remote work laptop.

So far I'm liking it a lot!

Got it out of S mode, uninstalled McAfee (using Windows Security) and some of the MS Office stuff (Teams personal, etc.), customized the UI it the way I'm used to for my PCs (dark mode, task bar to the left and showing all, etc).

Battery had no charge when I got it but it charged fast. Screen has some light bleed when full black but not otherwise. I'm only using this for work so I don't care. Screen colors, brightness and viewing angles are all nice. I also like the built-in physical cover for the camera. Oh, and the screen can open almost flat (180 degrees)! Hinges are solid but not too stiff.

Keyboard is a full one with the number pad on the right. Weird bridge between the enter key and the \ key above it. FN key between Ctrl and the Windows Key. It's not a bad keyboard but planning on using an external keyboard. Trackpad is responsive and feels nice.

Ordered 16GB Ram which I'll install tomorrow but even with the onboard 8GB it seems plenty fast for normal tasks.

Overall very happy. Thanks OP!

Wife wanted something with a touchscreen for work from home. Missed out on a local costco deal on a 17" HP with touchscreen and more memory and storage for $299 so we got this one. It is surprisingly good and fast. Screen is bright at 300 nits. Windows 11 Home is in S mode but switching it out of S mode was really easy so no problems there.
If it starts to slow down I will just plug in a memory stick in the extra slot. She will be using the cloud for storage so 256 is not an issue for her.
Again she will be using it mostly from home so battery life is not a problem but I did test how long a full charge lasts by playing leaving it while playing a youtube music video that was more than 3 hours long at about 80% brightness and 70% volume. It easily lasted the video with about 57% of battery life still left.
The only other downside is the barrel type charger so no USB C charging.
Link please, model number? thanks

Bottom cover/ram relatively easy to remove/install? Any specialty torx bits, or just standard/phillips screws..? Thank you much

Via Lenovo website, confirming ID.ME, free Best Buy pickup , and an extra $10 coupon on Lenovo website… Came out to $239.99 before tax.

Pretty decent deal especially if you upgrade with a 16gb stick and expand storage on the M.2 slot.

Finger is on the trigger… "Do I need another computer?"

if 8gb is already soldered, and intel said the MAX ram this processor can support is 64GB (I think 32gb x2?

how BIG of a difference would one see if they stick a 32GB stick into that empty slot to get 40gb total ram (8gb soldered+ 32gb) vs sticking a 16GB stick to get 24GB total ram? would this upgrade from potentially 24GB of ram to 40 be significant in terms of computer's performance?? or NEGLIGBLE and unnecessary??

thanks

Unnecessary. Mostly 16GB or 24GB at max would be good enough for 99% of users of this laptop.
