8gb in a non-upgradable $1K laptop in 2024 is insane! I literally have more memory in my iPad Pro 13".

If 8gb is sufficient, might as well buy a Chrome notebook for $200 to browse on the internet and check emails. To truly do a video editing, need 16 gb and put less stress on the cpu.

Do any of the new macbook pros support 2 monitors plus the macbook pro screen? That's my setup on my 2019 Macbook Pro with Intel chip
I'm not sure but if you find out, please let us know as I'm curious as well.

I work as a software developer on a M1 macbook air with 8g ram.
At the time of writing this reply I have 73 tabs + my code editor, outlook, several terminals, 2 msg apps, and some other random apps running.

8gb absolutely enough for the average user.

keep an eye on amazon.. best buy and amazon do these "sales" like clock work.. every 2 weeks they put them on "sale." wouldn't be surprised if amazon pm in a few days or amazon will put them on sale next week.

I paid extra for a 16gb M2 and now they are only valuing 512gb ssd and not the extra ram. On top of that, Bestbuy won't accept custom spec'd Mac for trade-in.

no it was literally this price on amazon??? one could've just ordered it from amazon??? you didn't need the bb membership???? what are you going on about???
When one starts a reply with "yeah and…" it's a pretty good indicator they are agreeing with you and then adding to your argument not countering it. Consider that.

My friend does video editing with a Mac mini 8GB and has never had a problem. My son has been doing all kinds of programming projects with his Mac book Air M1 8GB and no problems either. They have both been using for 2+ years.

Not a bad deal if you have the membership. I was able to get this for $774 on Prime Day after the $50 off and $75 off (Amex 50% off $150) and no tax as an educator.

Bizarre people will complain about the option to buy an 8gb laptop lol, get 16 if you need it? At what point does it just become complaining that something costs more than you want to pay lol

8gb ran is good enough for my $50 Android phone so must be good enough for a MacBook.

Another benefit of Total Tech is you get 10% more for your Trade In. I ended up trading in my Space Gray MBA M2 and was offered $687.50 ($625 + $62.50). I think a Silver M2 is being offered $770 Trade In.
I felt the $161.50 was good enough for the upgrade, which is faster proc, disk, graphics ... plus a new battery and Apple Care for 2 years.
Where I can find this info about +10% of trade in

8gb is good enough for a macbook because the macbook performs fine for everyday computing with 8gb.
If you use arbitrarily bad logic you can make any decision sound bad.

You're the first. But yeah, 8 GB Ram in 2024 is ludicrous.
