@c2nah777 said: I only brought up the discrepancy as a warning based on purchasers' having false expectations, due to the original post claiming IPS- based on the picture on the product page claiming IPS. Not OP's fault originally, but people were getting duped. OP knows this and still has not edited it out of their title. No idea why they didn't make the the time to fix their title.

Check classic view> Thread view to verify what I am saying. It does not appear in the Redesign view, since it got promoted to FP and edited by mods out of their revised title. But it is still as it was at this time. See att.
I agree every laptop thread has complainers. No one laptop will satisfy everyone. Big crowd looking, all have their checklists, and they vary greatly. Compromise is the key. So we set must haves, won't haves, price range, and pick one that we think is nailing it or close enough to compromise on something. We all know this and it is not shoppers' faults they have different wants and needs. The pros and cons they point out in the threads help others quite often as well.
Also, you can see the SD Moderator has omitted this false claim even though the OP still has not removed it from their title after having been advised

Also, I do not consider a sale price of $379 as a cheap, cheap laptop. I consider it a tick above cheap, so that is 2 ticks above cheap, cheap. Better than basic, but with an IPS it would have been closer to mid-tier, IMO.
$379 is not normal for this one. It is a sale price. For $379 one may pass (knowing it is TN), or go ahead since it still is $100 less than some other recently posted deals on laptops with similar specs and IPS. I ordered with the false expectation before the truth came out. Could not get it canceled, and will give it a shot since it got delivered. IPS was part of my requirements, so it matters to me. The viewing angles for my use as previously mentioned, are a pain.
But again, the information was incorrectly stated, which was the big issue for many.
There is one person here who has come unglued about TN and nits though. Not a representation of us all, just because of their repeated blasting of the laptop being trash tier.
Which is better?

But in my opinion, this is overkill for an older person's gift. They wouldn't need this much in specs. I'd get them a cheaper one. But if you don't mind the cost, they should love it.

Repped for your thoughts.
As a matter of fact, I got my Mom a laptop and provided her with a big external monitor and wireless kbd/mouse to replace her PC a few years ago. Older eyes like bigger screens. Even if her laptop had an IPS screen, she would need readers for it.
I see all the comments on this thread re: the monitor, that'd be a non-issue for me as I would connect the laptop to a travel monitor that I have in front of me so that I can see my swings replaying.
