Is this really v4, it appears to be what I thought was v3. It has a seperate router in the pictures, the new Starlink Mini has the router built in, did I miss a revision or a new dishy?

Extra $100 and the boat plan is capped at 50GB whereas RV is unlimited.
I suppose people with large enough boats to utilize this don't care about cost.
A stationary deployment makes it easy to plan for utilization, mobile deployments mean you have to capacity plan for endpoints moving around (added cost). Marine use means that rather than the signal going up to the satellite and back down to the hubsite it may have to bounce from one sat to the other before coming back to the hubsite. This seems to be why there is delineation in the pricing structure. I could be mistaken.

I like how they just decided to charge an extra $100 over the RV plan for boats.
it's the administrative overhead from dealing with all those users who just want to attack the russian navy.

Am I understanding correctly that there's also a promotion where Starlink gives you a $200 service credit when you purchase from a third party retailer? If so, this seems extremely slick. Effectively $100 for the equipment.

From Starlink's website [starlink.com]:
Quote :
In the United States & Canada, new orders in certain regions are eligible for a one-time savings in areas where Starlink has abundant network availability. This one-time savings will be applied to your Starlink kit price when ordering on Starlink.com, and if activated after purchasing from a retailer, a partial-refund & service credit for the listed amount below will be applied. The savings are only available for Residential Standard service in these designated regional savings areas (United States / Canada).
One-Time Regional Savings by Country:
United States = $200 - $300 USD
Canada = $400 CAD

what about those who want to get rid of their cable provider who charges for internet as much as their bundles used to cost? this worth it? I get fiber optic for $77 with reliable connection, but woudl still love to dump my cable provider..
with fiber you have more speed options. cost per megabit of speed will be cheaper with fiber compared to starlink.

Is the one at Best Buy the same Gen? Pictures and what's included "gen 3 router" etc. appear to be the same but best buy has a slightly different title and original price of 599.

edit - appears to be same, mfg# 02534001

Base plan is around 50mbps down, upload is passable at around 15mbps. This service is great for people who live in remote areas. I don't have it myself but I work indirectly in the agriculture industry and it has been a godsend for our guys that had really slow and unreliable internet service. Starlink sells an Ethernet adapter for $30 that allows you to use your own WiFi router, mesh system, etc in conjunction with their equipment.
The new version has two Ethernet ports built in.

Starlink is $120 a month for the standard package. I hgot it because I do not have access to cable, fiber or even DSL. Our old wireless provider charged $100 a month for about 7mbps and with starlink I get over 300mbps. It is NOT for people who have access to landline based internet providers as they should still be cheaper and more reliable.

I'm wondering if this would be a good backup option for emergency use situations. For instance, just buying the equipment, not activating it just yet and then activate if needed later. I guess if a hurricane hits and disrupts utilities, then most likely cell service will be nonexistent, so no way to activate, but … I'm not familiar with how this works.
But how would you activate the service in that situation if all else is down?

I could be mistaken, but turning it on just to update would incur the full month charge.
Firmware updates will happen with your service inactive. Just power up the hardware, and you can see in the StarLink app the firmware download progress.I was, however, unable to find in the app settings the firmware version number and/or status of download/install beyond the download progress info.

Anyone know what the limitations are with the mini-roam package? Can you purchase that individually for $50 per month? I'm wanting this for when I'm camping off grid and need internet access. Would that work? Looks like you can pause this service.
