Honestly , I don't think this is just a kids tablet. It is good for more than 90% of tablet users.

We bought two of these for my kids from target a few months back while they were $250 after years of shitty fire tablets. Worth every penny. Kids can actually play the games without crazy lab and crashing. Fantastic kids tablet.

Applecare on a $200 device? Can't do a warranty claim for insufficient RAM, unfortunately.
I purchased one about a year ago for my 9 year old granddaughter and her little sister stepped on it by accident. It was on the floor in the car. I took it to Apple and they gave me a brand new one. It's unlimited Apple care . I pay $3.95 a month for Apple care and it's a great piece of mind .

On the first page it has 174 dollar price from july 18th to yesterday! But I don't see a thread on it on SlickDeals, is this a price mistake. It does mention Woot! ... But why would there be no thread on Slickdeals on this. And going from july 18th to Aug 8th seems wacky to me. The price graph needs to be improved. Smilie

Update: apon further investigation it must of been the 174 dollar price on July 18th at 10am, Woot had 25-35 IPAD's and it sold out in less than 1 hour. It never made it to slickdeals forum room it was sold out too fast.

People who make the cloud storage argument are people who don't use cloud storage. All cloud storage solutions suck compared to having enough internal storage. They are NOT instantaneous. Far from it. They are all glitchy. High quality storage is dirt cheap in 2024. You can get a very good 1TB SSDs for below $100. It is sad that Apple (and Microsoft, following Apple's example) grapes their customers when it comes to storage, charging nearly 10x as much for storage as it really costs.
You're missing the point. The point is you're not limited by the storage on the device. This is not a cloud vs physical drive debate. You choose to go the physical drive path….ok. Good for you.

Respectfully, you ARE limited by the storage on the device. 64GB severely limits the functionality of this device. If it didn't, apple could not charge $500 for extra storage that costs $50 everywhere else. Apple intentionally limits base models, so that they are be able to advertise a "low starting price" and then price gouge their customers for extra storage.

This is $224 at Amazon, Walmart, and other retailers. I was about to jump on one this weekend until I thought hmm I wonder if Ubereats has them with a promo code. Ended up getting one of them through UE via Costco. They were $242.99 "on sale". I entered Costco membership (although not sure that's necessary for this), they had a 20% off Costco promo, and Ubereats had a 3 month trial of Uber One where they give $15 Uber Cash. Brought it down to $190.55 + tip (no tax here in Oregon). YMMV but give it a try if you're interested in one of these!

Pathetic lack of storage.
No support for Magic Keyboard or 2nd Gen Apple Pencil
No Face ID
Huge bezels surrounding the display
Does not support Apple intelligence
Outdated processor

But it does include a cool headphone jack.

What was the deductible / service fee?

You left out the part about it being $224 and being sufficient enough for over 3/4 of the World's population. 🙄🤦🏻 ♂️🤡

So many iPad deals out there I don't know where to begin. I am just looking for a Point of Sale device for our events ever month or so. Do I need the most current or is an older one acceptable for this use case?

check the requirements of the software and accessories. if you dont abide by them, you'll be unsupported and that would be a poor business decision. also, time is money. another concern would be if a slower or older ipad, even if it's technically supported for now, would delay you getting from customer to customer.

Personally, I think this one is perfect. Should be supported for years to come, plenty fast, warranty. Cheap.

Buying the latest will give you more years of application support. It's about $100 difference but you'll get 5 years out of the 10th versus 3~4 years out of the 9th. The software vendor usually would stop support when Apple does officially but best to check their website for a support matrix or email them.
