For $200, you can run virtually any iPad application or iPhone application. It's an entirely capable device -- there's nothing "wrong" or poorly constructed with this model. Yes, other models have nicer features -- but they come at additional costs.
It's also relatively newish -- only one generation removed from current. So you'll get a few years of use out of it before Apple end-of-lifes it, just to get you to "upgrade".
This ipad plus one of those cheap android tracfones (even if you don't activate them on cellular) will give you the ability to run pretty much any mobile application available.
There are frequent sales on 13" M1 Macbook Airs (they are a 4 year old machine at this point), as well as sales on refurbished Dell business-class laptops (8th gen intel and later). For around $1000, you can get one device of each platform. No excuse to not be able to get anything done.
Headphone jack and a home button are nice too!

$125 Amazon Gift Card (5%) + $75 (Discover 1%) - $10 = $190 + tax.
$0 for my 3rd gen ipad!
All in all, Walmart don't price match
Bonus find—open box conditions available as low as $179.99!
I'm trying to see a reason why I would need this cuz the price seems good, don't want it to become just a coaster

They don't become bricks the day the last OS update is released. It'll be a few months or even years before all the applications you use stop being supported on that OS. And even some of them are still being updated.
Sure, some people say "SECURITY!!!1!", but I don't trust anything mobile for banking in the first place. So much easier to do it natively on a desktop anyways. Casual couch browsing of the internet and watching local videos doesn't require 128-bit encryption anyways.
