You're jumping to a conclusion. The language of the rider does not speak this way. It blanket states a prohibition of DJI drones' use of US frequency bands. We will see what happens. I bought my mini 3 anyway, a couple months go, in optimism that if it passes it would be a transition period; and still I can fly in Mexico when I go.
Everyone is jumping to conclusions. Especially anyone that thinks their current model will be bricked.

Does anyone know if the Mini 3 Pro will take off using an extended battery if I am only registered for recreational flying?

The batteries are 95 bucks a piece so this is worth it just for them.

Again, this will only prevent newer models from getting certified U.S. sales. It won't brick your existing drone.
If the US bans newer drones what would prevent DJI of bricking the existing ones? Why would they waste money on support?

Yes, all plus battery will increase the drone weight and enable remote id broadcast. Don't know why there are no deals on the standard batteries

Don't forget that going over 250g also means the drone will have to be registered with the FAA. I think it's $5 and good for a few years. You'll also have to complete the free FAA TRUST exam and carry a copy of your certificate when flying if your drone is over 250g.

Yes, it will take off. No, you shouldn't do it. Just follow the rules and register. It's not hard nor expensive.

With the plus battery, it activates remoteID which broadcasts your GPS coordinates and the location of your controller, among other things. There's nobody actively looking for this information if you're not flying in controlled airspace.

That said, assuming you don't have any incidents / accidents, it's likely no one but you will ever know you broke the rules.

You need the TRUST certificate for any flying, even under 250g.

Over 249g you need registration as you indicated, but TRUST is a requirement for everyone. Although I'm sure half of the drone owners have never even heard of it.

I flew for a few months before I learned about it. It's very quick and easy, FYI, and basically just common sense. I liken it to a fishing license, a small hassle that will likely never be needed but will save you from hefty fines if you ever did need it and didn't have it.

Anyone buying drones look at the recent bans the US plans to place on Chinese drones. It's not looking pretty, sold my 3 Pro cause of this. So many "man I wish I had my drone" moments Frown
What, are the Drone Police going to show up and ask for your papers?

Should have kept it.

I mean unless you never reconnect your drone to the Internet it can get software locked.

Just like they did with the note 9 that exploded it just stopped charging for example via an ota update.

That's definitely true. And after some amount of time without an internet connection, the DJI software will require you to connect before you can fly again. So in theory, the government could indeed brick your device. We will see what happens.

With that said, I definitely think you jumped the gun. I'm going to buy a mini 4 pro when I find the right deal (currently have mini 2).

Let's be honest, when was the last time our government ever did anything, let alone did it quickly? We don't even know what they intend to do (ban future sales, ground everything, etc.) but I'd be willing to place a large wager that it doesn't happen anytime in the near future...

To each their own. Cheers!
