There's always another chip, update, and BF is never more than 12 months away….

Why the downvotes? Similar high-end Windows laptops that cost this much are spaced much better. It's time for Apple to start actually putting decent storage and RAM in their lower-specced models. It's far past time for them to shore up minimum specs. And I'm an Apple fan.

My Apple laptops usually start to poop out on me after 8-9 years so compared to my 2015 MBP I'm using that I paid the same amount for back in 2015, this is a great deal IMO.

AAFES will price match this, if you're eligible. No sales tax.
Is this in-person or via the website? If website, how did you get them to match? Customer service never responses to me.

Because this isn't a Windows laptop. This has a better trackpad, keyboard, OS, ecosystem, and build quality. Windows laptops are usually just parts in a box with a Windows OS tossed on.
Agreed. But at some point the MacOS software isn't worth the markup they charge for specs that wouldn't fly in a Windows laptop at 1/2 the price. I much prefer MacOS and if they really up their gaming support, I'll switch wholly to Mac in a heartbeat. I had a 16/512GB M1 Pro I recently sold because there were only a few games that I play that Crossover supports well (or at all) and 512GB gets eaten up real fast when games are 50+GB a piece. A base 1TB model for all their 16GB RAM configs would go a LONG way to make their computers a much better value. You can argue that Macs last longer than Windows machines and you would be right. But as someone else pointed out, they've had 8GB as the base since something like 10 years ago. At least now with their push to do AI LLM on-device maybe they will cave to the need of more than 8GB RAM and larger drives for those LLMs.

A lot of people complaining about spec sheets but the reality is that 16gb ram and 512gb hard drive is more than sufficient for most users. There's simply too many cloud storage options now for us to keep thinking every single file we use needs to be stored on our system hard drive.

Furthermore, if you're a creative you should never be storing your files on the native system hard drive. You should be running a separate drive, likely 2-4tb or more, with some sort of integrated back up solution. I'm running a basic m1 16gb ram with an external thunderbolt nvme setup and there's essentially no lag or hesitation when I'm post processing photos in Lightroom and photoshop. No reason why this m3 MacBook wouldn't be a solid performer for most people.

I think this point has been beaten to death. Agreed, most users are good with this. But for some of us, we need and/or want more. $200 up charge for 500GB of space and almost that for another 8GB RAM is ridiculous. We know it doesn't cost that much to manufacture the additional hardware so it's pure profit for Apple.

Apple has a history of changing the way we think we need to do something. They killed off the headphone jack on the iPhone and upset a lot of people who kept insisting it's still needed. Now look where we are at. Look we're not running windows devices that can be configured with 64gb of ram and still see lags and slow downs. Yes you are correct that a for profit company could offer 16gb ram as a base configuration, while also increasing the starting price of the device. What you're not understanding is that a lower spec entry level device has a lower price for those that that truly don't need more. Increasing the entry specs also increases the price and could force some people out of the market. What you're asking for is to offer more spec at the same price. Do you really think that's reasonable?

Should I get this, or wait for the M10 Ultra Pro. I heard that will have a huge boost and will be out in 2032.

You call them, just as it says to do on the website.

Of course it is. Why do you think this is on sale? This is still Apple's latest and greatest.
Its not the latest and greatest though. M4 is already out in ipad and will be in laptops in a month.

I purchased the m3 15" air yesterday at BB yesterday and ram it through PayPal. The 5% is not showing up in my account, just a fair warning. I'll be calling them Tuesday. I used chase freedom unlimited for purchase for the electronics warranty, which I believe protects you if you did not buy AppleCare. I did not as it hasn't been useful in the past, and ended up being money thrown away.

PS: the midnight blue is truly BEAUTIFUL. It looks hunter green/dark blue in incandescent light, and deep grey blue in daylight. I plan to either skin it with a clear coat, an oleophobic coating if I'm brave and past the 60 day return window, or clean it with isopropyl alcohol ask long as I can get away with without taking off the finish. It's seriously gorgeous if you can keep it smudge free. I'm still thinking about how to do that, and if I don't come to a conclusion, I'll opt for space grey instead. It's a shame they don't offer the black on the air. I can't say enough about how high quality the MacBooks look and feel. My last was a 2013 MBP that I still have. I switched over to apple in 05' after running through 2 premium level laptops in 2 years with constant repairs.

You have to call them and ask for it unless they've changed recently. They will gladly do it, but won't do it via email.

Picked one up yesterday with Amex Mr pts and all the cash back with 510 trade in came out to like 1k OTD. 8gb of ram in my previous pro was slowing me down.
