I have an eero router. I catch my 5 GHZ devices on 2.4 GHZ almost every day. I then speed test it with wifiman and after a few tries it generally switches.

Umm...there's no relation b/w you running in a speedtest and your devices jumping bands. I bet you have Client Steering enabled and that's what you are noticing. It's always upto the source device to decide what band to connect to.

These routers do not even let you change channels to get your devices on the right band. When I start up the router it puts all my devices on 2.4 and it even does this if I don't use them for a while.

I watch them change from 2.4 to 5 Ghz almost every day. I'm sure others have experienced the same thing. I want devices that refuse the 2.4 Ghz band so Frontier can't do this anymore.
I have this mesh system since they came out, I guess 2 years ago.
The setup is very easy and I set it up as Wireless Extended system, not as the Router system as they recommended.
However, it worked OK but from a couple of month ago, it gives me a few minor problems, like lost hard wired connection from 2 satellites units ( I have 3 units) even thought they are all connected by 1 GB speed, Cat6 wires. Contacted Tech Support, I was told that change the gigabyte switch and change all cables so I did. After I changed all things like they asked, now the system show still only one satellite has the hard wired connected by 100 mbps speed.
Very frustrated..... there are not much things I can do to the system due to the design of Eero 6E which is the setting is NOT allowed by a user. There are not much settings or tweaks I can play with it.
I am looking for other good mesh system for my house now.
If you're losing hardwired connections you probably have a bad cable, connection or connector. Same issues. Replacing cable or connector has solved every issues.
