RX 6550m is about the same performance as an RTX 3050, but lower wattage.

Not a bad thing, at $450 this is a nice budget option for someone who wants to pc game on the go and is OK with turning settings down

Just needs a Ram upgrade and it would be a nice gaming laptop at low to medium 1080 gaming.

$450 is not bad, but the open box prices are where it's really at. Excellent should be a very solid option still and just a bit over $400 pre-tax. Personally I would even consider gambling on the $375 pre-tax fair option if there was one nearby

eSports titles will probably run fine. Probably not at 144hz, but maybe closer to 120hz at lower settings- still probably good enough to be truly competitive on a budget.

Does this let you adjust the monitor refresh rate? I know someone with a Lenovo gaming laptop and the 144hz was locked down and we couldn't lower it to save our life

Would need a 2nd stick of ram but should be a steady 80ish FPS on Fortnite at lowest settings...

Agreed on the open box deals. If you pick up in store inspect it before leaving the store. Turn it on, check the specs etc. Any red flags just cancel and walk away or get them to handle it.

thanks for posting this OP Smilie

Clicked on questions and answers and noticed the first question asked and answered was

""Is the RAM and storage upgradable? If so, to how much?"

"Joe, thank you for your question about upgrading this HP Victus gaming laptop! The laptop supports up to 16GB of memory in a 2x8GB single-channel configuration along with 2TB of SSD storage. Both components are user-upgradable.

You should at least always check. I believe they sometimes will mark things as open box fair just because it doesn't have the box anymore.

There also is a game code deal with AMD if you do in store pickup. It didn't show up online but when I went in the store to resolve a cc issue, it showed up on the receipt. I pestered best buy enough to generate the codes.

If you want to replicate my experience and it's a long drive you need to schedule, I guess hold the laptop with an online order, drive there, and then ask them to cancel online order and run the order in store.

You know what? I decided to wait for cheaper Core Series 2 laptops on BF and get one of those instead.

This is quite a deal if you're in the market and don't want to overspend. Fast single threaded CPU, good multithread. Upgradeable ram and storage. GPU is definitely good for 1080P and a 144hz IPS panel is solid.

No weak point at $450.
