(Accidently replied instead of posting a new comment) A location near me just had an Open Box Fair pop up for $429. Hoping it has everything and is in perfect shape, but will be quick to return/cancel if it has any issues. Was planning on waiting for the next model with the new chip that comes out next year, but it could be years before they get down this cheap.

How's this compare to a Steam Deck? I have the original Steam Deck, I assume this is more powerful?

More powerful yes but having had both I'm back to steam deck oled. Windows chews battery but opens up game pass and epic games and gog. If you play at home on a couch it's good. Just a little heavy. If you travel steam deck is the way to go.

At $500, may be worth trying out. I live my steam deck but would like to try something a little bit more powerful.

If the new product comes out in 2025, then the next year 2026 price is held at MSRP. Mid 2027 will see a price reduction. I don't think the gap difference will be so high between 1 generation.

The gap between SD APU and Z1E isn't major...better off waiting a few years for real leaps in performance and efficiency. Maybe 2028 you should upgrade.

It's not windows per se. I have a heavily debloated version of W11 on my SD, and it doesn't use much RAM and boots very fast.

Any reason to get this if I already own the Ally Z1E?

Rog ally x better
Rog Ally X is better in some areas. Legion Go is better in some areas...

What makes this the best DEAL is that this is 499 vs 800 for the Ally X.

I just bought the Rog Ally Z1E open box for 350 2 weeks ago. I really liked the bigger screen and controls on this. Much difference other then that? Thanks

Not really. The screen is what sold me. The other differences are built-in kickstand and detachable controllers which have been more useful than I expected. It's also heavier which I mitigate by using the kickstand, resting my elbows on an armchair, or using an iPad cushion (when jn bed).
If you already have the Ally, it's probably best to wait for an upgrade that will give you a decent performance boost.
Typing this on my Go now with the kickstand!
Edit to add that this will not have a broken SD card slot that the first Gen Ally eventually will. The Ally also has better software. Lenovo is still catching up there.
