Walnuts become rancid and quickly, unlike most other nuts. I have a sneaking suspicion these are nearing expiration. When they remotely become rancid, they are bitter. You will know immediately.
Curious where Amazon is sourcing these. Most Kirkland items on Amazon are from resellers, but I doubt someone is reselling walnuts….so maybe Costco is looking to dump near-dated inventory.

Seems so according to a guy just above that also replied about freezing. I suppose, the silver lining is Amazon is always easy to refund you and let you keep it in most cases.

If you haven't noticed, amazon has marked most food items non refundable this year. Probably was abused too much. No more free food

It sure does. And it doesn't affect the taste or texture. Leave some in a bowl on the counter for 5-10 minutes on the counter to come up to room temp or microwave them for 15-20 seconds.
Lots of things freeze really well. Nuts/seeds, butter, cream cheese, regular cheese, etc.

My favorite move by amazon. Ship you food that was poorly packed, it arrives broken or beat to crap and then you get to chat or call their customer service and burn 20 minutes getting a refund for their mistakes.

I got an envelope of broken glass and salad dressing once.
According to the triple camel extension, it sat around $20-22 for quite a while, and this is the lowest price ever for the last few years.
Also looks like the photo is a product from Costco sold in Mexico, central and south america, and it also looks like Amazon combined many reviews from various kirkland walnut offerings. A bunch of which were 3rd party sellers.
Jokes aside, it is recommended that all nuts be stored in a refrigerator to maintain freshness. You would find it written on the bag as well. The same goes for dates, figs, prunes, etc.
As far as Best By date is concerned, for most foods that's more to cover liability for retailers/manufacturers. Even the medicines get tested for longer periods for stability, efficacy, etc and then the expiration dates are a few months shorter than what it is tested for.

I just received my bag yesterday from the last time this deal was posted a few weeks ago. The expiration date is Sept 30, 2025, and it does say to put your nuts in the fridge. So now that's where my sack of nuts is
