In general, no.

By nature of you even asking the question, the answer to this kind of question will always be no, nobody can explain this to you in a way that will make sense. It's like asking why someone would pay a lot for steak when you could just eat ramen. You'll never be able to explain to that person why something is "better" if they've reduced the value of the item to merely being "food".

This isn't meant to be insulting, if you have a $15 backpack and are happy with it, live your life. There is no reason to wonder why anybody else spends what they spend on theirs.

Smokin deal. This price only happens a few times/yr...meaning 2 or 3 times so I wouldn't wait if you're on the hunt for this backpack. FWIW, I love mine. Been using it for both work and family travel since it was released. It's waterproof (with waterproof zippers) so it keeps your laptop safe in the rain (I can personally vouch for this), can handle 2-3 days of clothes for short trips (fits 2 Nomatic medium packing cubes), magnetic bottle holders so they "stick" to the side of the backpack even after they're stretched out, has a separate sleeve for shoes/sandals, fits my work 16" m3 macbook pro easily, and even when fully loaded it always sits upright. Always. Once you realize how handy that little design perk is you never want to go back. You can always do a drive by and scoop it up by the top handle without fail. And last, it fits under airplane seats without an issue. For travel purposes, I can't imagine a better backpack.

4+ lbs for a 20L bag is pretty heavy. This is a bag for travel, and when you carry it around all day, every ounce of weight matters.

Steak and ramen are different. A better analogy may be why some people buy a Lexus over a Toyota (on a much, much smaller scale). Better quality, material, craftsmanship, the "look" and warranty.

I wanted to get this but missed the last sale. Ended up getting a generic expandable travel backpack from te mu for $50 and it's been very good. Has a lot of the same features as this nomadic one, but def not as sleek. If i didn't get that last time, i'd probably get this.

Costco Next = return to Vendor only
Thanks. Now next question, has anyone dealt with this vendor for return? Do we need to pay for return shipping?

Tried to buy a bunch for christmas gifts and the order was cancelled 10 minutes after I placed it. I guess they only want quantities of 1!

Purchased the NOMATIC Essential Travel Pack 20L-30L on Costco website. Fantastic product. This is my second backpack and I love the durability, comfortability, and versatility with compartments and expanders. This version has more features, so it's a no-brainer/steal. Perfect for 2-3 days worth of things.
I recommend this one over the 40L, which is huge. Think of that as a big duffle for sporting great.

Nope, I stand by my analogy. That might be a better approach if they were asking why something costs $155 vs $125. There would exist a reasonable response to a question like that. But asking why a $15 bag isn't the same thing as a $155 bag shows a fundamental misunderstanding of why things cost what they cost. It's like asking why taking the bus isn't the same thing as buying a Lexus.

I've had one since their second Kickstarter. I love it but I do agree it's heavy for the size of the pack. The materials are nice and there is a lot of storage compartments.

I'm always security conscious while travelling with backpacks. How easy is it to get into those 2 front zipper pockets? Any way to lock them? I have family who've had stuff stolen from their backpack before.

for $155 I will buy a regular checked bag on sale for $50 and pay the baggage fee... still comes out less than the price of this bag...

Yes, in time it pays off, but this bag is too rich for me. Have fun for those that can afford it.
No one cares. This not for you then. Move on. In for one. Thanks op. Been waiting for this deal

Perfect response. For those that can't understand the value of this $155 bag or a $800 espresso grinder or a $3k speakers etc...move on. You do you

Can someoone explain to me why this is worth $155 when a 30L packable backpack with unpadded laptop pocket from Amazon (#1 best seller) is $15? (5yrs later after using it almost every other week for weekend trips still holds up well)
I have this backpack. The bag is always inspiring confidence in what it's doing. It's holding your items snug, it's protecting them, and allows you to be rough with the bag without fear of damaging the contents.
I'm going to have a hard time ever changing backpacks. It has so many smart design decisions that makes it worth it. Durability is incredible. I don't have any part of the backpack that is coming apart at any seams. The front pocket does this really neat half-fold that makes it easy to access items in the front pocket. There are about 10 small mesh pockets throughout the bag that are placed really well that make it easily accessible. The way the flat laptop pockets sit, are padded, and have a false bottom, works perfectly. The padding on the back, the shoulders, and the way the top handle is heavily re-inforced gives you a lot of confidence when picking up the bag when it's fully loaded.
