Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

AT&T here. Much props to ProudToBeAnIndian. I've been waiting to get this WM deal and I am happy Smilie I ordered on the 18th, the expected delivery date was today *Sunday* the 24th. I was able to pay off right away on the 20th though I waited until the 22nd. Phone arrived today Sunday and I was able to do the steps on the AT&T unlock wiki flawlessly. Activate, make sure calls and texts are logged on site, move esim to an unlocked esim phone, repeat call / text and make sure logged. Finally used Chrome incognito att.com/deviceunlock and submitted request using wife's name, different email than AT&T account info and a working non AT&T phone number just in case (wasn't needed apparently), my unlock request went through in a minute. Confirmed on Iphone14 no sim restrictions WEW!
So all I am waiting on is an available AT&T rep on Monday 0800 EDT. Unfortunately, due to how Walmart fixed the shipping there was no way in heck I was cancelling within 3 days. I'm pretty sure there was a memo by the big guys to make it this way intentionally to eat more fees. I expect a $60 - $70 bill (fingers crossed) or maybe if the stars align and they can go by fedex delivery date maybe I can get a nice rep to refund activation fee and prorate. Wish me luck

Glad that ATT steps worked for you,.I was thinking they might have closed the loophole while putting that on wiki but that doesn't seem to be case. The bill will come with a link under the activation fee called "don't recognize this fee", if you click on that there is an automated refund for the very first time (or every year or so). Do talk to the rep after that for other charges, they will for sure send you a months bill even if you cancelled in couple of days

Your request could not be processed when calling in to pay off device via verizon non verizon phone #. I also got the chat link.. selected from the devices on my plan the new iphone and it said device isn't eligible to payoff until Dec 8. Is this dead?
Same thing has happened to me

Your contribution is appreciated and I saw that "don't recognize" link. I'll give it a try.

Hi, where do you even enter an email id etc ? I have paid off and disconnected the line (got charged $8.xx for the 3 days) but I'm unable to submit unlock request.

When I click on "submit an unlock request" under Not an AT&T customer section, I get Yes or No radio button under Do you have a mobile number from AT&T. If I click on Yes and give a non-AT&T phone # it says the phone number is non AT&T and if I click on NO and enter the IMEI # it says "Looks like the IMEI # you entered doesn't match an AT&T device"

Do you get the same options/screen when you click on Not an AT&T customer ?

I used chrome on my phone incognito tab and the "not an AT&T customer" path. I chose "No" for "Do you have a mobile number from AT&T" naturally because I had joined the e-sim to another phone. I was able to enter the IMEI and proceed with a request. I made sure not to use any information that I used for my AT&T account i.e name, newly created AT&T phone number, email address. Then the site said their team would look over and approve my request which had me worried for a second until I saw the unlock site already emailed me saying my request was approved and to confirm via email link. I followed the wiki to the letter meaning I kept my AT&T wireless number active before the unlock went through. I would have cancelled it already but there aren't any reps who can assist until 0800 EDT.

Did you activate the phone on ATT? The steps you are doing should lead to an ATT phone if you had activated it

For WM deals, if you're an existing Verizon member I'd avoid these deals in the future unless you value your time at $0/hour.

At first glance, a $299 Iphone 14 sounds awesome, but then you add in all the wasted time and all the garbage plan and activiation fees you'll end up paying. No, you will not be able to pay off the phone early.
Not a deal. I sent this hot garbage back to verizon

If you're a new Verizon member, you're willing to take a hard pull for a few bucks off a phone? Unless I'm getting at least $500 worth of value on my credit pull, I don't even get out of bed.

Elaborate on not being able to pay the phone off early?

I bought the phone inside a Walmart store and it was activated immediately. I paid off the phone the same day and the next day I transferred eSIM to another phone and then tried to get iPhone 14 unlocked using the steps in Wiki but I wasn't able to get it unlocked (both on 2nd and 3rd day).
So I finally canceled the line on the 3rd day evening to avoid excessive activation/monthly fees being charged (luckily my total bill was $8.05 which I paid on the 5th day).

But now I'm not sure how to get it unlocked with phone paid off and AT&T plan terminated.

Not sure if I should wait for 60 days or pay one of the online Unlocking companies to get it unlocked!

Thank you for detailed steps, If possible, Can you please share link for AT&T unlock wiki ?

How were you able to create an AT&T account before phone got delivered ? I took all screenshots along the way, but I do not see any account number or phone number while ordering.

Thank You

If the phone was activated on ATT, you should be able to request unlock even without an active ATT account as per their policy. However, if the phone was actually activated you should get an error back from unlock like not 60 days yet,.are you getting that?

The steps are in the wiki of this thread.

*** Instant unlock using SIM Swap for ATT (YMMV) ***
After getting the phone and paying it off fully, make some calls/texts and make sure it shows up on ATT account
Transfer the eSIM to an unlocked, steps might vary depending on iPhone/android.
Make some calls with that phone and make sure it shows up on the account now.
Now go to ATT.com/device unlock and select non ATT customer and provide imei.
Make sure you reply yes to the confirmation email ATT sends
Only cancel the account after you are able to unlock.
